Moments of Memories Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4

Games Day 12thOct2019

Written by Foo Zhen Xi, Asst Sixer & Scribe ONE MORNING, MY BROTHER AND I WENT TO SCOUTS TO FIND GAMES BEING SET UP BY THE P6 SERVICE SCOUTS. AS A CLUELESS PERSON, I ASKED MY FRIEND WHAT WAS GOING ON. “GAME DAY,” SHE REPLIED. AFTER I GOT 3 SIGNATURES FROM MR CHEONG, IT WAS TIME FOR HORSESHOE. THE 2 SENIOR SIXERS WERE ABSENT AS THEY WENT FOR SOME AKELA AWARD CEREMONY SO SOMEONE ELSE HAD TO TAKE CHARGE. BALOO WAS TEACHING US TO DO THE KERB DRILLS FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR. THEN, WE GOT INTO IDIAN FILE, EACH SIX ONE BY ONE TOOK TURNS TO DEMONSTRATE THE KERBS DRILLS AS BALOO SHOUTED,” FAIL!! CRASH AND BURN!” IT WAS FINALLY TIME FOR THE GIRLS TO SHOW OF HOW GOOD AND POWERFUL WE ARE BUT ONLY FOR RUI MIN TO RUIN IT ALL (IT’S OK RUI MIN WE FORGIVE YOU) BUT BALOO SAID EVEN THOUGH WE FAILED, THE GIRLS WERE THE BEST OUT OF ALL THE BOYS . ENOUGH ABOUT DRILLS, MORE TO PLAYING GAMES! THERE WERE 4 GAME STATIONS WE COULD PLAY AT ONE AT A TIME. TWO SIXES HAD TO MERGE TOGETHER, I WAS JO

North Area Paper Plane Derby 28thSep2019

Image
Written by Farren Lee, Sixer & Scribe On 28th September, the cub scouts and I went to Marsiling Primary School to participate in the Paper Plane Derby. We arrived at the school with hopes of winning the derby. However, there were a few rules to follow. There were 4 categories in the derby. Flight, flight aloft, aesthetic appeal and accuracy. ·        Flight - Furthest plane wins ·        Flight Aloft - Longest period on-air wins ·        Aesthetics Appeal - Best designed plane scores and wins. ·        Accuracy - Throw through the hoop and win Upon arrival, we headed to the Band Room where we learned how to make some of the paper planes before going to the respective categories. From there, my six went to the flight aloft at the hall and started to toss our planes, hoping it would last as long as possible. We later followed to the distance area and threw our planes as far as possible. After winning the first two categories, we went back down to the Band Room an

Folding Paper Aeroplanes 21stSept2019

Written by Ker Rui Min, Sixer & Scribe Last Saturday morning, it was a wrap for this year’s Scout Donation Draw and we were told to return all the money raised, together with any unsold tickets.  After the whistle was blown, we quickly gathered into the horseshoe position. After doing the usual colour party, we got into Indian File. Without further ado, we headed to the Pal room for the collection of the donation draw tickets. While the donation draw tickets were being collected, we were pleasantly surprised as we were told that we would be folding paper aeroplanes today. It turned out that due to the current haze situation in Singapore, our night hike next week would be postponed. Instead, we would be going for the annual North Area Paper Aeroplane Derby! We practised three basic methods of folding paper aeroplanes and a few harder ones. The longest distance, the longest time in the air, accuracy and most creative paper aeroplane – these were the four co

Community Service - Making Mooncakes with AWWA 31stAugust2019

Written by Foo Zhen Xi, Asst Sixer & Scribe   It was a sunny Saturday morning and I was sleeping until my dad woke me up for scouts, we were making moon cakes with the elderly! I jumped out of bed and got ready. when my dad fetched my brother and I to school, the school looked so empty…the first person I saw was Isabelle, who used to me the sixer of wombat. I also saw other scout wearing red scarfs, I thought it was weird so I asked her,"what are you doing? where is everybody? why are you wearing a red scarf? what's going on?” “ Akela award interview. I'm getting ready, everyone is in the kid zone 1 and also, you’re not supposed to be here.” She said. I grabbed my brother’s hand and walked to the kid zone while waving goodbye to Isabelle.   I put my bag on the floor and went to look for my friends, i couldn’t find anyone so I went to the field and played by myself. Not long after, Yee Xin, a member of my six appeared. I asked her where she was and she said

Akela Award Interview & Assessment 31stAuguest2019

Image
Written by Ross Pary, Deputy Senior Sixer and Chief Scribe   Today was a very special day for me and nine others. Since we were   Akela Award candidates, we had the chance to get the prestigious Akela Award, the highest award we could achieve as a cub scout. The day started off with the ten Akela Award candidates meeting at the bus bay. Mdm Kerina then gave us our red and white scarfs, or the national scarf specifically used for national activities, such as the Akela Award interview. At 8.45 a.m., we boarded the bus with Mr Ng to bring us to Nanyang Primary School, where the Akela Award Interview was held.                              (Nigel is not shown in the photo as he came later.) At 9.15a.m., we reached Nanyang Primary, and Mr Ng gave us our groups and where to sit. My good friend, Asher, and I were together in group 4. After we all settled, the Scout Leader who started the interview introduced himself and explained to us a little bit about what the uniform code w

National Education Proficiency Badge 24thAugust2019

Written by Thirrushan, Deputy Senior Sixer & Scribe     I had no idea we will do a badge today! It started off with the usual colour party before we assembled back in Indian file! After attendance-taking and logbook collection, we had a brief badge giving before heading for the music room! Over there we had a long but interesting talk from Mr Tan for the NEA badge! I recalled that I have done it last year, but if I had failed ( we still did not get the results), I would be able to retest!   We learnt many things, from how to prevent dengue, to the journey of recyclables. Some of the junior cub scouts learnt that Mr Tan was a dengue survivor too!   After all of this, we had a mini-test before heading back to the kidzone to assemble. We got information that there will be mooncake making with the elderly. Then, we were issued with the donation draw tickets for the September holidays. It took a while, and by the time the tickets were all back into our bags, it

Hike to Jurong Lake Garden 17th Aug2019

Image
Written by Ker Rui Min, Sixer & Scribe The day started with gathering in front of the library. We were going for our second hike of the year at the newly opened Jurong Lake Gardens! After the headcount, we boarded the bus to go to Bukit Batok Nature Park. From there, we were going to take the Coast-to-Coast Trail to Jurong Lake Gardens. All of a sudden, it started to rain. As the rain got heavier, we stopped to put on our raincoats and ponchos. However, the rain did not dampen our spirits. We walked for a little while more before seeking shelter under a void deck. We also had some biscuits.   After the break, we continued to walk towards our destination. The sky had already cleared up and stopped raining. Time flew by and before I knew it, we were already more than half through our hike. As we walk along, I saw many intresting animals such as monitor lizards and otters.   We walked and walked and walked…… After what seemed like forever, we finally re

Hike Presentation, 3rdAug2019

Written by Marco Tan, Sixer & Scribe I rushed to school in a hurry. I could finally get my Astronomy badge! At the same time we had to do a presentation about our previous hike. My six were presenting about the past of Fort Canning. We were very soft so we must have been the ones that almost minused 100 points. Bilby’s sixer Farren, has done a one man show and got first place. Afterwards we learnt a new song from Australia . Mr. Tan said it was very popular there. We also received our bumblebee badges and for me my new woggle. It was an amazing day. After Sunset Party, we headed home. I hope we have another chance of doing these kinds of activities again.

Orienteering @ The River Trail, 27thJul2019

Image
Written by Farren Lee, Sixer & Scribe On 27th July, we cub scouts went for a journey to Fort Canning Park for a fun time using an app descriptly titled BalikSG. We arrived at Hotel Fort Canning and slowly made our way to Fort Canning Centre. From there, we were separated into 2 groups who went on different ways.   My group went to Farquar Garden first. Due to the extremely horrible way this app works, some of us were confused on how to scan the codes and how to read them.   Navigating around Fort Canning was difficult at first but after fiddling around with the map and even using Compass on our phone, the rest of the trip went on smoothly. A few hundred metres up a hill was Artisan Garden, which had nice views looking down to the garden. It also contained broken pieces of Porcelain and Ceramics.   We rested and took more photos before heading off to our next location.   The next location was a long walk away but 15 minutes later, we made our way to San

Handover Ceremony 20thJuly2019

Written By Ross Pary, Deputy Senior Sixer and Chief Scribe Today was a very special day for me for two reasons: one, I took part in the Japanese homestay program and was allowed to bring my buddy, Uta to scouts. Secondly, it was the day of the Handover ceremony! This meant that the primary six appointment holders would step down and let the primary four and five scouts takeover. However, the handover was at 11am, so I had to wait two long hours. Before the handover, we had a few activities. First was compass reading. I was very excited as this was a part of the difficult map reading badge. After a while, we had learned to use a compass. Then, Mr Cheong taught us about map reading skills. He taught us how to use the online Street Directory and how to plan a route. He also told us what to look for when on the route. The time passed quickly and it was time for (drumroll, please)... the Handover ceremony! The primary four scouts were called out and their appointments were first

Games Day/ Amazing Trail Prep 27thApr2019

Written by Ross Pary, Asst Sixer and Scribe It was a sunny Saturday morning as I went to Henry Park to attend my scout’s meeting. My fellow scouts and I assisted our juniors in attaining their badges before the meeting started. After the sunrise ceremony, Mr Tan showed us how to do the rolling hitch. It was a bit difficult but I managed to get it on my 3 rd try. To do the rolling hitch, you need to loop the tag end of the rope around an item. Secondly, you need to bring the rope down behind the item. After that, you need to bring the rope up, wrapping the item. Then, you need to pass the rope between the straps. Finally, pull both ends of the rope to tighten the item. We used our shoelace as a rope and our limbs to practice on. After untying our rolling hitches, we headed to Music Room 1. There, Baloo taught us these three songs; “Heal the world”, “We are the world” and “I’ll be there”. They were all sung by Michael Jackson. They represent love, unity and responsibility

Amazing Trail Briefing, 13th Apr2019

Written by Thirrushan, Asst Sixer & Scribe It was a Saturday, and that only meant one thing, scouts! I quickly took the bus in my green uniform and was at the Kidzone at about 8.40 a.m. Today we were going to have the Amazing Trail meeting! Whenever I hear those words, my memories go back to all the four years I have taken part in the Amazing Trail! I have even taken part in the 10th anniversary of the Trail!:) After the colour party, we assembled in Indian File. Baloo went through the Scout Promise. Which is :       “On my honour, I promise that I’ll do my best, to do my duty to god, and to the Republic of Singapore. To help other people, and to keep the Scout Law” After that, Mr Tan taught us how to do the clove hitch. A while later, Mr Cheong taught all of us how to do a head and arm bandage with our scarf! It was especially easy for me as I had taken part in the First Aid Course for the AKELA AWARD ! Soon after, we q

Packing & Pioneering, 6thApr2019

By Chong Min Rei Senior Sixer and Scribe It was a normal Saturday morning. I was curious as we were supposed to bring some clothes. I was talking to some of the Akela candidates and found out they had their First Aid Badge test. Most of them were sixers so when getting ready we had to appoint acting sixers. As none of Possum’s sixer and assistant sixer were available to do colour party so we had last minute plans and changed to Wallaby. After colour party, all assembled together. Mr Cheong told us the plan and we moved to the PAL room for the meeting. The first part of the meeting, we learnt to fold clothes so it would be easier to fit more clothes in our camp backpack and the clothes will not roll out. Mr Cheong us a new method to fold the clothes in a snug and tight bundle. Before teaching us, he brought a backpack that could last a 3 days 2 night camp, Baloo even said it could last 5 days and 4 nights. He also showed to us what we should bring inside a camp backpack and wh

Job Week, 15th - 30thMar2019

Written by Bryan Low, Sixer & Scribe I came to school very early at 7.20 a.m., and was really excited as today, we would be having our last job week briefing before setting out to begin our job week. I put down my bag and talked with my friends for a while before the senior sixer, Min Rei, blowed the whistle signal for horseshoe and i quickly got into my position in the horseshoe. We did the usual colour party, said the scout promise, and lined up in indian file to begin the briefing. Once in indian file, the sixers were asked to think up of a few skits to show good and bad examples of scouts and different people we meet. While we prepared the skits, the other scouts were briefed about job week with more detail. Mr Tan mentioned something very important: never use “donation”, and instead use “contribution”. Eventually, the skits we thought of were a scout and… •         A pervert or chi kopek uncle, •         A person not willing to give any mo
