Term 1 Week 5 By Koala Sixer Damon Kwok   I arrived at school at 0845hrs, all excited to welcome the new recruits into the Six.  Shortly after, we formed up for Colour Party and then gathered in Indian File as instructed by Senior Sixer Ryan. Kaa started calling out the name of each of the recruits and which six they would be in, and everyone was eager to find out which recruit will be joining their Six. As the recruits were assigned to their Six, the members of each Six warming welcomed them.  After that, we were split into groups for games on scouting knowledge. The first game involved us sitting in a circle with a cone in the middle. An alumni would ask questions related to scouting and whoever knew the answer would run to the cone, pick it up and shout out the answer. Term 1 Week 2 By Deputy Senior Sixer Isaac Li I arrived at Kidzone today and found my fellow Sixers setting up the flagpole. Soon after, we formed a colour party in the horseshoe formation. We began with Six Corners, where the Sixers met the Cubs after a long break and set expectations for the year ahead.  After that, we started the Best Six Foot Drill competition. Each sixer had to train their own six to practice some simple commands like “Senangdiri” and “Sediya” and “Kelua Baris”. I joined Koala to help them and the six of 5 did pretty well. We then went to go for the competition. In the end, the six coached by Michael and Ryan – Wallabat – won first place and we were a bit disappointed. Nevertheless, we learned how to do the foot drill better and were prepared for next time.  Then, we played Butterflies and Bees with Grey Wolf for half an hour.   Term 1 Week 1 By Possum Assistant Sixer Ming Heng   On 10 January 2026, I went to Scouts feeling refreshed but unsure of what to expect, as no one had informed me about the details of the day’s event. When the meeting started, we did not have our usual colour party like in normal meetings. Instead, only sixers and assistant sixers were present, rather than the full six members who usually attend.   During this Sixer Refresher Course, we revised our foot drill knowledge and flag-raising procedures. In the first activity, which focused on whistle commands, we had to memorise the different whistle signals for “horseshoe formation”, “Indian file”, “assistant sixers and sixers gather”, “sixers gather”, and “assistant sixers gather”. We were then tested by the senior sixers. I had tried kayaking before and wondered if this would be a similar experience.  When I arrived at school with my father for the family bonding event, I saw some of my friends and quickly caught up with them. As we walked towards the KidZone, we realized we were the first ones there. Soon after, we were split into groups for the boats. I was part of Boat 6. Sadly, none of my sixmates were in the same boat, but thankfully, I was with some P5s who were also my friends.  We boarded the bus and set off for the Singapore Dragon Boat Association. I sat with a friend, and we chatted throughout the ride.  After some time, we arrived. We gathered at an empty area where we were briefed on how to hold the paddle and put on the PFD (personal flotation device). By Emu Sixer Zi E  I arrived at Kidzone at 8:45 a.m. We began by forming a horseshoe, reciting the Scout Promise and Law, and then moving into Indian File. After attendance, we gathered in Six Corners to discuss our attire, badges, and other matters.  Next, we were sent six by six to collect our mass tins, cups, utensils, and Milo powder. The Sixers also had to bring pepper, soya sauce, dark soya sauce, and sugar. With everything ready, we headed to the canteen.  Raksha first briefed us on what we would be cooking: hot Milo, fried beehoon, and a fruit salad. She also gave us step-by-step instructions, and each Six was assigned a Leader to supervise the process. At our table, Hathi guided my Six at the cooking station. First, I fetched water from the sink in my mass tin and set it to boil for the Milo. While waiting, we measured the Milo powder into our cups, then took turns using a ladle to scoop the hot water. By Echidna Sixer Ding Wen We started our Saturday at 9am with lots of excitement—especially for the art and craft session led by our Leaders!  After forming up in Colour Party and Indian File, Kaa guided us through the craft activity. Our Six worked on special Well Wishes cards for our fellow P6 scouts in Echidna, decorating them with bright colours and plenty of creativity. We hope these cards encourage them to do their very best in the PSLE! Once we completed our crafts, we cleaned up our area and gathered to hear from Bagheera, who introduced the new progress badge scheme for the Scouts. It sounds like a very exciting journey ahead for everyone starting out!  Next came some classic campfire song practice, including favourites like The Bee Song and Ging Gang Guli . Afterwards, Grey Wolf led us in a lively game of “Bees and Butterflies,” where we had to dodge the “bees” armed with noodle sticks. By Bilby Sixer Li Yuchen During the hike from the Esplanade to the Indoor Stadium, we came across many interesting sights, including a concert at Marina Barrage. Before setting off, we had gathered at the school entrance to wait for instructions. The leaders reminded us to take along a few essentials such as a water bottle, raincoat, and other items. Once attendance was taken, we boarded the bus. The ride was fairly quick, and along the way we passed Marina Bay Sands, the F1 street circuit being set up for the race, and the Singapore Flyer. When we got off the bus at the Esplanade, we crossed the road into Esplanade Park, where we saw a few people jogging. After a while, we spotted some drones flying above, and even came across a very large one resting on the ground. Interestingly, we later met the joggers again as we continued on our way. By Deputy Senior Sixer Isaac Li I heard shouts of my name today as I entered the area in front of the library. My fellow Senior Sixers, Michael and Ryan, showed me where to put my bag down. After a quick water parade and a toilet break, we moved off to the buses—we were going for our 8km hike! On the bus ride, I sat with Michael, and we chatted about the day’s events. Both of us were excited for our first outing as Senior Sixers. When we arrived at the Esplanade, we went straight to the front of the long line of sixes and began the hike with Rama. Michael and I had the special role of rotating the sixes every 15 minutes. The views along the way were amazing—we saw the Merlion, the Marina Bay Sands, and even spotted a drone bigger than me!  After 30 minutes, we stopped for a water break. Ikki told us this formation, which looks like an eyeball with the flagpole in the middle and the cub scouts forming an oval around it, would be our new standard. We then began with our colour party ceremony.  After the ceremony, Hathi gave us 15 minutes for six corner. We stayed in our respective sixes for this activity, as instructed by Ikki.  Once we finished six corner, we gathered into a single file and were split into three groups for our orienteering lesson. One group consisted of the new cubs, another was for the second-year scouts, and the final group was for the remaining scouts. I am in the third group. This event is a significant moment for our scout unit, as it marks the Primary 6 students stepping down to prepare for their PSLE and new leadership roles being appointed. I was buzzing with excitement, eager to find out what new appointment I would receive and which six I would be leading.  I got there just in time to help with the flag and flagpole. My friends and I worked together to carry them out for the flag-raising ceremony. Afterward, we did some foot drill, learning new commands. It was tiring but a lot of fun. We then played some fun games that required quick reactions, led by Grey Wolf.  The highlight of the day was the handover ceremony. I was absolutely elated when I was appointed as the new Senior Sixer. The event was nothing short of spectacular – filled with energy, laughter, adventure and a great sense of unity!  As the Deputy Senior Sixer, I was proud to be placed in Platypus. I arrived bright and early at 7.30 AM, buzzing with anticipation. The day began with a lively briefing by our enthusiastic and cheerful Ikki, who unveiled the theme for this year: The Amazing SG60 Trail 2025! The announcement set the mood and spirits were high as we received our limited-edition cotton T-shirts – a fun and thoughtful keepsake with clues on it.  We were joined by 80 guest scouts from three different northern schools: Waterway Primary, Horizon Primary and Springdale Primary. By Senior Sixer Zac Loh This year’s Amazing Race was one of the most thrilling experiences I’ve had, especially because it was my first time participating in Possum. I felt a strong sense of responsibility not to let the other six members of my team down, which made the challenge even more meaningful. Unlike previous years, this time we were split into two separate groups, which added a new layer of strategy and coordination to the race. The main objective was to identify the nearest MRT stations to some of Singapore’s oldest and most iconic locations, travel there using public transport, and create a compelling video documenting our journey. What I loved most was the spirit of teamwork and the adrenaline rush of racing against the clock. Each stop brought us to a place rich in culture and history—like traditional markets, colonial-era buildings, and timeworn alleyways—where we had to complete tasks or solve clues. It was a day meant for bonding, learning, and challenging ourselves in new ways. None of us quite expected how much we would discover—not just about the world, but about ourselves.  Our day began bright and early at an outdoor rock climbing venue. As we approached the towering climbing walls, a mix of excitement and nervousness bubbled inside me. Some walls stretched higher than the roof of a three-story building! Our instructor, a cheerful woman, taught us the basics of climbing—how to fasten our harnesses, tie safety knots, and the commands.  I remember standing at the base of the beginner wall, staring upwards and feeling a lump form in my throat. By Koala Sixer Ng Kye  This week at scouts was a great blend of practical skills and creative teamwork. After our colour party, we lined up and were split into our sixes for a first-aid session. The main activity for this session was learning how to tie a head bandage and an arm sling using our scarves. The sixers were in charge of teaching the juniors since they all have their First Aid Badge and are proficient in the skills. They were able to pass on their knowledge to the rest of their six. Afterwards, two members from each six were chosen to demonstrate what they had learned to the leaders. It was a good challenge, but due to time constraints, not everyone was able to perform the bandages perfectly. Still, it was a great learning experience!  The second part of the meeting focused on an activity for International Friendship Day. Our Scout leaders split us into three groups: first-year, second-year, and third-year scouts. The first-year scouts learned simple knots, while the second-year scouts practiced lashing techniques. The third-year scouts tackled a more advanced project, building a structure using square lashing with wooden poles. After knotting, we went to the PAL room for a briefing on our upcoming Amazing Trail event. Before the main briefing, our venture scout, Farren, gave an excellent presentation on Crime Prevention. He taught us about various types of crimes, such as property crime, and shared tips on how to stay safe. Farren's presentation was both informative and interesting. Soon, Ikki split us into groups for foot drill. The recruits were led by an alumni and a leader. The remaining pack was split into two, each taken by two alumnus. Foot drill teaches us about discipline and focus. It also trains our teamwork. After the foot drill, it was time for the highlight of the day— our upcycling project. We were to make a rain gauge and a wind vane using plastic bottles we had brought. Kaa briefed us on the procedures of making them before the pack was split into six corners to finish the crafting activity. We enjoyed every second of it. I noticed they were discussing their yellow booklets and asking me questions about how to complete the requirements. I gave them a goal to work towards so they could earn their progress badges. Soon, the scout meeting was about to begin, and we gathered in a horseshoe formation. I saw that many of my cubs had poorly folded scarves, so, as a good role model, I stepped in to help and showed them how to fold their scarves properly. After the horseshoe, we gathered into Indian file to take attendance and then moved into our Six Corner. There, I had to teach my Six how to label their belongings, fold their scarves, and tie a thumb knot. After that, Hathi formed our groups for the Diamond Jubilee Challenge badge for Q1 2025. We were heading to the Rail Corridor entrance at Jalan Kilang for our first hike of the year! It was the new recruits' first hike, and I could sense their excitement as we set off. We were blessed with good weather—while the sun was shining, a refreshing breeze blew every now and then, making the hike pleasant. To keep ourselves entertained, we sang Scout songs and even some pop songs along the way. At one point, we passed through a tunnel covered in graffiti. It was a surprising and interesting sight for many of us. During the hike, we learned that the Green Corridor was part of the former Malayan Railways track, which once connected Malaysia and Singapore. When I arrived at school, most of the scouts were already there. At 7:40 a.m., we hopped on the bus and set off. When we arrived at the venue, I noticed it was a different location from last year’s event. I still remember last year when we gathered at the stadium to welcome our new Chief Scout. This time, instead of a sports stadium, the event was held between a few HDB blocks. The event began with us reciting the Scout Promise and the Scout Law. After a few words from the guest of honor, the carnival games started. To earn the prize, we had to complete five minigames, and another five to earn the badge. After completing that, I patiently waited for the Senior Sixer to blow the whistle for horseshoe. Once horseshoe was done, we lined up in Indian file to listen to our Scout leader, who shared the plan for the day. First, we submitted our Diamond Jubilee Challenge (DJC) card and money to the Scout Leaders. Then, the leaders handed out the long-awaited proficiency badges, along with our DJC Badge. I was thrilled to add six more badges to my jersey! Next, we were introduced to new members who joined our six, and I was excited to learn more about them. For the meeting that day, the leaders instructed the Sixers to pack a hike bag. The hike bag included items like a poncho, mosquito repellent, a groundsheet, a clipboard, and stationery.
