Drill & Badge Test 26 August 2023

By Emu Sixer Favian Poh

We assembled in Indian file, getting ready to take our attendance before we got into our sixer corner. After sixer corner, the Scout Leaders recapped the basics of foot drill such as:
Ke-Kiri Pusing – Left Turn
Ke-Kanan Pusing – Right Turn
Senang Diri – Stand at Ease
Sedia – Attention
Ke-Belakang Pusing – About Turn / 180 degrees Turn
After we practiced the foot drill, a loud whistle was blown by the Senior Sixer and we reassembled in Indian file.
The Senior Sixers and all sixers were told to go to Kidzone 2 to discuss how we were going to entertain the elderly from AWWA (Ang Mo Kio Branch) during the coming VIA program (community service). We invited the elderly to HPPS and would be celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival on 9th September (Saturday) from 9 am - 1 pm.
The rest of the cubs were split into the three different groups. Cubs doing their Bronze Arrow went to the classroom to work on their Bronze Arrow. Cubs doing their Silver Arrow and Gold Arrow stayed in the Kidzone. The cubs had a better idea on how to complete the various arrows. The leaders encourage all cubs to attempt the remaining task at home.
The SS and Sixers were split into two groups. The first group comprised Zeyu, Yun Han, Yichen, Ewan. Zac and me. We were supposed to design the games to be played on that day. The second group comprised Jewel, Ray, Zeqi, Junchen, Adam and Donald who were supposed to write a script for the skit.
For my group, we thought of a game of bean bags. The players would throw the bean bags as near to the cone, without touching the cone. The thrower of the bean bag closest to the cone would be the winner. The second game would be to obey the commands and copy the actions as told. If a player successfully followed the commands and performed the action, he or she would win the game. We let the cubs try these games. At the end of the meeting, we got into horse-shoe for the sunset party.
Today’s meeting is great because all the cubs can learn how to get the arrow and proficiency badges. However, all of us have to continue to practice our foot drill as some cubs do not know the commands at all.
The one thing I can improve is to come up with more suitable game ideas to entertain the old folks.
