Chestnut Nature Park Hike, 26thJan2019

Written by Bryan Low, Sixer & Scribe Today, we specially reported to school at 7.00 a.m. Why? Well, today, we would be hiking in Chestnut Nature Park! Mr Cheong said that it would be a 4.5 km long hike. After I came to school, I saw that there were already quite a lot of scouts at the bus bay. I walked to my six and sat down at the front as I was the Sixer of my six, Platypus. Once it was about 7.10, the senior Sixer, Min Rei, asked all of us to stand up as she was going to make sure that all of us present had handed in our reply slip to attend today’s hike. After making sure that all of us had stood up, Min Rei instructed us to say “present” or “here” and then sit down whenever we heard our name being called. It did not go that smoothly, but after a while, we had made sure that everyone had handed in their consent form reply slips. A few other scouts had arrived while we were in the process, and we counted them in too. Once we were done with...

Recruit Camp Cum Unit Campfire 19 to 20Jan2019

Written by Cheong Yew Chung, Sixer and Scribe “Beep Beep! All sixers and assistant sixer form a row wile recruits gather here.” It was recruit camp and I was going as a service scout which meant I would help out with some activities like the water bombs and singing of songs. Me and my fellow sixers first went to prepare our skit for the campfire which all the P6 sixers do. It was a challenge as only a few had premade their weapons meaning that those who did not had to rush to make weapons, it was so much of a rush that Gavan did not have enough time to make a shield and since he was my tribe leader, I had to lend him my shield making me shield less and my shield ended up broken in the handle. It was super fun we all had fun practising the fake fights and dying! Except for the tribe leaders. After we practised Raksha wanted us to help her prepare the cookers and solid fuel. Before we knew it, we all helping the recruits make delicious noodles nut we did not n...

First Scout Meeting, 12Jan2019

Written by Kwan Kai Fong, Assistant Senior Sixer and scribe. It was the first ever scout meeting for the whole unit. Some of us looked happy while others looked sad. Even before the meeting started we did get a new batch of recruits, quite a number of them to they looked tired, and I was guessing that they were tired as they may not woke up this early before. As usual we set up the flag pole and did the scout promise while the recruits were watching of course. We got into Indian file and the teachers collected the scout log from the Sixers I could tell some did well in designing and writing I was happy as they had met the standard I am sure the others will follow this example. Next was the rules now they gave the sixes more opportunities to get more points and we sang songs like the bee song, father Abraham and flee fly. As it was getting to 11am we did the sunset party as the recruits prepared for the briefing. I and the Senior Sixer were forced to go for the briefing as we we...

Refresher Meeting, 5Jan2019

Written by: Chong Min Rei, Senior Sixer and Scribe It was an early morning and the sun was still rising. After colour party, we moved to a classroom as it was very noisy and we couldn’t her Mr Cheong properly. We then sat down and started to listen to Mr Cheong while looking at the white board. We took out our black books and pens to take down notes. He told us that we should always bring our First Aid Kit and black book with our yellow book in it. He started talking about discipline and how we needed to be initiative. He also talked about how to be a good Sixer, what a good Sixer should be. He told us how we should act around the new recruits and be aware on what we should do. We are their role models, they will look up to us and as we want them to be obedient and listen to us but if we don’t behave they won’t listen to us and we would have problems. After a small break, he moved onto badges and the prestigious Akela Award. He talked about the components, what values we shoul...
