Amazing Trail Preparation, 25th April 2015

Written by: Jessica Koong, Assistant Sixer & Scribe The preparation for the much-anticipated Amazing Trail has started! This year is the 10th anniversary of the Amazing Trail and Singapore's 50th birthday. I am sure it will be an extraordinary, spectacular Amazing Trail! All the cubs will be performing for the gala dinner this year. We have been split into three groups - singing, dancing and acting. I chose to dance. The dance has three segments representing the Malay, Indian, and Chinese ethnicity. Each group has a prop. The scouts in the Indian segment have bells and those in the Malay segment have scarfs. As for the scouts in the Chinese segment, we will be using fans. It will surely be a dance that is befitting to commemorate SG50! All the scouts raced to their allocated rooms and pulled off their shoes to enter the room. In my group, there was a lot of chatter and Mdm Kerina had to raise her voice to calm everyone down. Mdm Kerina revised the dance moves step by s...

Amazing Trail Briefing 2015, 18th April 2015

Written by: Cheong Yew Meng, Assistant Sixer & Scribe “Beep …..Beep !! Horseshoe!!!” the Senior Sixers shouted at the top of their voices. Doing my job as an Assistant Sixer, I got my Kangaroo members to get in line and got in the line myself. After colour party, we got into indian file and took attendance and then Baloo asked who did not come for the district campfire held at Greenridge Primary. A few got valid reasons, A few did not. “Foot Drills???” the entire pack said in unison. Every six had to stand up one by one to do foot drills. It was tough as some could not differentiate “ke kanan pusing” and “ke keri pusing”. After those were over, we had to do contribute to the Amazing Trail Gala Dinner. I picked dance over singing. In conjunction with SG50, we had to wear a traditional costume and do a dance relating to racial harmony. After the first round of practice, we ended the scout meeting at 11a.m. Next, we went to the Pal Room to do our briefing on the Amazing tra...

District Campfire, 11th April 2015

Written by: Kwey Xiu Xi, Sixer & Scribe Today was the day of the District Campfire. The Sixers-in-training went to the District Sixers Training Camp yesterday, and today we meet them there for a grand campfire! At six in the evening, we gathered at school, and prepared to leave for the campfire. We travelled on the school bus, which was filled with noise of the excited chatter. It seemed like everyone was looking forward to this campfire. When we reached the school where the campfire was to be held, we saw the fire wood, placed in the familiar positions we knew, and also a string leading from the second floor down into the campfire wood. Eager as we were, we had to sit in the canteen to wait for them to be ready. We talked about how the school canteen looked like, the different schools of scouts present, (we recognized Beacon Primary school, and another school with a blue scarf) and explained to our recruit the difference of the District campfire and ou...

Job Week Cards Collection & Remembering Mr LKY, 28th March 2015

Written by: Evangel Wong, Assistant Senior Sixer & Scribe "BEEEEP!BEEEEP!BEEP!BEEP!" The senior sixers blew their whistles to call for horse shoe. However, inside of the usual procedures, as everyone is aware of the very sad passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, to pay respect, the scout flag was raised at half mask and we had one minute of silence to pray for Mr LKY. It was indeed a very sombre moment..... After the horseshoe, we gathered in Indian File and Baloo asked us to share about what we prayed for. This was the first week after the march holidays, Job week so you know what that means time to collect some $money$!:) But before that Baloo asked everyone how much they earned to find out the highest earner it was Joanne!! More than $800! WOW great job!!!  Group by group the adult leaders collected our $MONEY$ and counted them. After that, Baloo told us what we were going to do. Each group had to take a majong paper, and draw the Singapore flag, but instead of ...

Written by: Daniel Por, Senior Sixer and Scribe It was a cool morning at 8 o’clock when the Senior Sixers’ whistles rang out through the air. The Scouts who had managed to drag themselves out of bed gathered in Indian File, and soon Chil was talking to them on Jobweek safety, really basic stuff. Then the Sixers were sent to prepare their skit, while the rest of the Pack continued to listen to Chil. Soon enough, the Sixers came back and presented their skits on various scenarios, like how to reject a job, or properly ask for a job. The funniest ones garnered a reaction from the Pack, mostly laughs. Chil then went through the phone numbers of Raksha and Mdm. Kerina, telling the Scouts to call these numbers if there was an emergency or they needed more Jobweek cards. All too soon, we were dispersed to start Jobweek! The start of Job Week 2015... Role play by sixers before cubs set off for their Job Week Supportive parents await pati...

Job Week Briefing & Role Play, 7th March 2015

Written by: Claudia Kong (Senior Sixer & Scribe) After the usual horse-shoe formalities, The adult leaders conducted a detailed briefing for the job week. Some basic to-do were highlighted to the cubs. Chil also reminded us of what we should bring along when we go out for job week. I can sense the excitements in most cubs although some of the new cubs displayed anxiety. During the questions and answers session, many cubs raised very good questions. I am thankful for our adult leaders as they make great effort to clear our doubts. And pairing us up for job week is a great idea. After the detailed briefing, for the benefit of all the new cubs that join us this year,  the senior sixers and sixers put together a few skits showing some dos and don'ts while going about our job week. In the skits we also learn how to handle some unique tricky situations. The adult leaders and teachers then issued each of us with 2 job week cards and some little pocket calendars. Before we ended...
