Hike on 16 August 2025
By Deputy Senior Sixer Isaac Li
I heard shouts of my name today as I entered the area in front of the library. My fellow Senior Sixers, Michael and Ryan, showed me where to put my bag down. After a quick water parade and a toilet break, we moved off to the buses—we were going for our 8km hike!
On the bus ride, I sat with Michael, and we chatted about the day’s events. Both of us were excited for our first outing as Senior Sixers. When we arrived at the Esplanade, we went straight to the front of the long line of sixes and began the hike with Rama. Michael and I had the special role of rotating the sixes every 15 minutes. The views along the way were amazing—we saw the Merlion, the Marina Bay Sands, and even spotted a drone bigger than me!
After 30
minutes, we stopped for a water break. The Senior Sixers gathered and decided
to switch our duties. Ryan, who had been rear-sweeping with Bagheera, swapped
places with me. I moved to the back of the line, where I chatted with Bagheera
about our responsibilities. Soon, we approached Marina Barrage. As we climbed
up, I could hear performances below, including a K-pop song called Soda Pop.
After receiving our worksheets, we settled down for a picnic.
I pulled out pretzels and chips to share, while Qayleb from my six, Echidna, generously gave me a pack of seaweed. Meanwhile, Michael went to count the solar panels in the field as part of the worksheet task. After the scrumptious picnic, it was time to continue the hike.
This time, Ryan returned to the back for rear-sweeping while Michael and I led from the front again. Along the way, we passed a stretch that felt oddly familiar—then we realized it was the same path we had taken during the CLTC 2024 night hike! Before long, we reached the National Stadium, our final destination. Soon, the bus arrived, and we enjoyed a soothing ride back to school.
When we returned, the leaders praised us for our effort and dismissed us. Although I was drained from the hike, I thoroughly enjoyed it and look forward to more fun experiences in scouting!
