Green Corridor Hike 10thApr2021

Written by Garren Pang, Acting Sixer & Scribe

It was another exciting day of scouts! This would be our first physical hike since 2020. Last year, during circuit breaker, we could only participate in a virtual hike. Although it was interesting, it was not as fun as interacting with nature. I was glad we could finally hike physically since Covid 19 situation had improved!

The meeting started at 7am which was much earlier than usual. I had to wake up early so I was feeling a bit sleepy. But once I saw my fellow cubs all ready to hike, my sleepiness vanished instantly. Although the Covid 19 situation has improved, we still could not go as one pack. We had to spilt up according to our six as we made our way to the Bukit Timah Railway Station.

We were led by Bagheera who shared interesting facts about the landmarks along the way. The weather was nice and cool, perfect for hiking. During our hike, we encountered a massive field which was once a forest. But it had been cut down. It was one the coolest thing I have ever seen! There was a giant valley on both side of the path. One of them lead to a colossal canal. To be honest, I never thought that such beautiful scenery could exist in Singapore! Bagheera took amazing pictures of us at the valley.

After walking for awhile more, we saw the Bukit Timah Railway Station itself! It was over 88 years old! It was amazing to see that such an old and historical landmark survived till today. Another important thing also happened there. We had a break! We have walked 2.5km and we could finally rest. We gulped down plenty of water before heading back to school.

At the school, we were totally exhausted and famished! We were glad that we completed the hike. It was time for picnic! We laid down our groundsheets and completely devoured our snacks. The picnic was super fun as I got to chat with my members of my six and ate together.

Finally, we played some games! We played egg chicken rooster eagle. How the game works is that all players start off as an egg and have to play scissors paper stone with each other. Whoever wins, will upgrade to one level higher. Eg egg becomes chicken. But whoever loses, will downgrade to a level lower. The goal of the game was to become an eagle.

We played two rounds and we all had a lot of fun. Whoever did not become an eagle, lost and had to do a forfeit. They had to do the chicken dance! It was regretful that the meeting was over. But on the bright side, I can’t wait for our next meeting!
