First Aid & Knotting 17thApr2021

Written by Kei Rui Min, Senior Sixer & Scribe This Saturday morning, we gathered bright and early at the Kidzone. Even though it was still early, there were already many people taking their badge tests. Before long, it was time for the colour party. We blew our whistles and every one hurried to gather in horseshoe position. After the flag break, we lined up again in Indian file. After attendance taking, we had our six corner. The sixers taught the new cubs how to tie the knot on the left side of the scarf and continued encouraging each other to complete their proficiency and progress badges. Then we gathered again. This time, we were split into Pack 1 and Pack 2.  Pack 1 was sent to Kidzone 2 while the rest of us stayed in Kidzone 1. Bagheera taught us different bandages we could do with our scarf (triangular bandage). First, he demonstrated the arm sling. He told us to ensure that the person’s arm was parallel to the ground. Also, we were told that the reef knot should be tied...

Green Corridor Hike 10thApr2021

Written by Garren Pang, Acting Sixer & Scribe It was another exciting day of scouts! This would be our first physical hike since 2020. Last year, during circuit breaker, we could only participate in a virtual hike. Although it was interesting, it was not as fun as interacting with nature. I was glad we could finally hike physically since Covid 19 situation had improved! The meeting started at 7am which was much earlier than usual. I had to wake up early so I was feeling a bit sleepy. But once I saw my fellow cubs all ready to hike, my sleepiness vanished instantly. Although the Covid 19 situation has improved, we still could not go as one pack. We had to spilt up according to our six as we made our way to the Bukit Timah Railway Station.  We were led by Bagheera who shared interesting facts about the landmarks along the way. The weather was nice and cool, perfect for hiking. During our hike, we encountered a massive field which was once a forest. But it had been cut down. It wa...

Tenderfoot Camp 23rdJan2021

Written by Kei Rui Min, Senior Sixer & Scribe This Saturday, the new recruits, along with the P6s, gathered at the Kidszone 1 to have our first camp of the year! Even thought it was only a day camp, I was still looking forward to it. After being grouped into their sixes, we took turns introducing ourselves. Then, we had a short ice breaker game to see if we could remember each other’s names. We were split into two teams and the recruits would come up one by one and see if they were able to recognize each other.  After that, Baloo began to explain the Jungle Book story and the recruits took turns to be the different characters in the book. Afterwards, we had a foot drill session with Bagheera where we learnt basic drills like ‘sedia’ and ‘senang diri’. Soon, everyone got the hang of it and we were given a quick snack break. Lastly, we got an introduction to scouting by Dragon Heart. The recruits received a handout containing information about scouting. After a recap on the scout...

First Scout Meeting 16thJan2021

Written by Foo Zhen Xi, Sixer & Scribe “Ah yes, the first scout meeting after probably 6 months,” I muttered to myself as I waddled into school. It was the first scout meeting after only being able to see each other on our computer screens. Some people looked brain dead and gloomy and everyone else was excited to see their friends. I only have one scout achievement this year and it is to get my Akela award. There were new recruits joining us this year but the number of people joining decreased due to COVID-19. We started the flag pole raising ceremony and our first activity began. Everyone sat in Indian file as the sixers and assistant sixers practiced folding flags for the flag pole. It was actually much easier to do than I thought. After that, we had six’s corner, where each six gathers in their own corner to discuss about things like badges. I helped Phoebe and Belle with their bronze arrow and briefed them through what they are supposed to do, luckily they understood the instru...
