Unit Camp Day 3 19 November 2023

By HPPelican Alumni Wang Ziyi The day kicked off at 6:15 am, as I dragged myself to the toilet to get ready for the day. We had breakfast, before packing up and cleaning our campsite, which was a whirlwind of chaos, memories and teamwork. Then came the highlight of the day, which was the games. For the game that I was in charge of, one team had to hide a few items, while the other had to find them. Despite some cubs having to struggle to contain their excitement and eagerness, the fun was palpable, and the event was a great reminder of their team spirit. As an alumni helping out, I gained a new level of respect for all the event planners having seen and experienced first hand how much effort and planning they had put in to make this camp possible. I have also learnt that the essence of the camp isn't just about having fun or being disciplined. More importantly is the fostering of friendships and teamwork between each and every cub.

Unit Camp Day 2 18 November 2023

By Emu Sixer Favian Poh When we woke up, we reported to the Kidzone. Then we reported to our Indian File. We started our sunrise party. Then we ate breakfast and packed our small bags as we were going for orientation at the Botanic Gardens. When we reported to our Indian File, we were given a map with numbers, a compass and a checkpoint list to see where we were going. After that, we got assigned our leaders to help us a bit and waited till the bus arrived. When the bus arrived, we went on the bus and went to the Botanic Gardens. When we reached Botanic Gardens, we were dropped off at the wrong spot and needed to travel to the correct spot. After we were dropped off at the correct spot, we were given instructions, and we started the Orienteering. We were assigned checkpoints and we headed to the checkpoints using a compass and a map of Botanic Gardens. When it was about 12pm, we took our lunch and sat at the Shaw Fountain Symphony Stage and ate our lunch. After we ate our lunch, it sta...

Unit Camp Day 1 17 November 2023

By Senior Sixer Donald Or It was 8:45 am in the morning and I had reached school dragging a heavy and large bag behind me. When I finally put my bag down, Ewan and I got some of the sixers and we setup the flagpole. At 9:00 am, we blew the whistle for horseshoe formation and checked everyone’s uniforms. Ewan then did the colour party. After that, every six pitched their own tents followed by the making of their very own six flags. We got markers and cloth to design our flag. When we were done, we collected some poles and rope to make a flag holder. Unfortunately, Ewan and I both got a splinter inside our fingers when we were holding down the wooden poles. It was lunchtime and everyone was hungry, so we went to the canteen to cook. We had quite a lot of ingredients this time. There was tofu, sausages, carrots, tomatoes, beancurd skin, fishballs, fish cakes, yellow noodles and rice vermicelli. There was even some soup broth. When we were done, we wasted no time and ate everything quickly...

The Egg Challenge 4 Nov 2023

By Wombat Sixer Ray Neo At around 8:30, quite a few cub scouts had already arrived. Some cub scouts were busy signing off badges, some were talking, and some were playing. The akela candidates were listening to Bagheera as he was explaining the expectations of the Akela Award. Not long later, it was time to start the colour party. The senior sixers, blew the whistle. Everyone quickly gathered into horseshoe formation and the colour party started. After the colour party, the senior sixers handed the attendance list to the sixers to mark attendance. Next Bagheera gave out quite a few progress and proficiency badges. Next, Hathi briefed us about the safety precautions for outdoor cooking before we started cooking. We are supposed to cook 5 different kind of eggs. A small fire broke out at the place wombat was cooking as they left the mess tin with oil in it on the fire for too long. As a result, the mess tin got burnt and the fire extinguisher was used. Bagheera gathered the sixers to tel...
