NEA Badge 13Oct2018

Written by Thirrushan, Asst Sixer & Scribe

It was the 13th of October 2018 and I woke up earlier than usual, as it was a Saturday! Saturday’s only meant one thing- scouts!

When I reached the kid zone, there were very little members. Soon, it was time for the colour party and we went into horseshoe position. Many of the Primary Fives were not here, as they went for the Akela award ceremony. I already have my gold arrow, so I am sure I will be like them next year!

This meeting, we were going to try to get the NEA cleanliness badge! We went to the Teaching Lab for the briefing by Mr Tan. For the next few hours, we went discussed cleanliness, Dengue, and energy efficiency.

First, we talked about the badge. It was a badge witch the brownies can do too. Respect, Harmony, Responsibility, Care, Resilience and Integrity are the 6 core values of this badge( but mentioned by Mr Tan, the 6 core values of the CCE guidelines).

Secondly, we talked about cleanliness. We learned that cleanliness is crucial to the hyphenated of Singaporeans and that we can each play a part by being considerate and reminding our family and friends to dispose of their litter properly.

The section where we learned the most was obviously the part on Dengue and Aedes Mosquitoes. We learned that the female Mosquitoes are the ones which take blood from us and the Aedes mosquito gives out diseases like Dengue, Chikungunya and Zika. we even found out that Mr Tan had Dengue before!. After hearing his scary story, we realised how important it is to stop the breeding of Mosquitoes!

After that, we learnt how to conserve energy and about the 3R’s. After all of this, we had a 20-question quiz! We racked our brains and finally finished it. Mr Tan said that those who passed will get the badge next year. After all of that, we went in single file back to the kid zone.
