Scout Meeting 10th October 2009

Meeting started with the horse shoe and Colour Party. Leonard Lee did the flag break, while Baloo was the Scout Leader-in-attendance.

Cubs then fell in Indian File. Baloo practised some foot drill with the Cubs, with some basic commands like Senang Diri, Sedia, KeKanan Pusing and KeKiri Pusing. It was evident that quite a number of Cubs had forgotten the foot drills and Baloo spent some time revising the basic commands with them. There is still much work to polish up the foot drill!

Akela then asked the Cubs to show their personal Fist Aid Kit. Akela went through the contents of 10 items required in the First Aid Kit. Most Cubs had a reasonably well-packed Kit. Some, however, were too big while one or two were inadequate. Akela, Grey Wold and Baloo then inspected each Cub's First Aid Kit to ensure that the correct items were packed.

ITEMS IN A PRESONAL FIRST AID KIT
1 Adhesive Dressing to dress small wounds
2. Crepe bandage to bandage sprained joints
3. Antiseptic cream/lotion to treat wounds
4. Scissors for cutting
5. Cotton Gauze to cover large wounds
6. Surgical Tape to secure gauze over wound
7. Triangle Bandage to tie arm sling, etc
8. Safety pins to secure bandage, etc
9. Cotton buds to apply cream
10.Cotton balls to clean wound

Baloo taught the Cubs new lyrics to be sung with the previously taught song, "Lets Go Fly a Kite". It was good that most Cubs remembered the chorus that was taught when Cubs watched the trailers to the UP movie some weeks ago. Cubs showed an amazing zest singing Ging Gang Goolie which impressed Baloo. Their enthusiasm overflowed with the Choo Choo Train song, with Cubs happily chorusing "Choo Choo Shit Shit" on and on and on. Well, trust our Cubs to change the lyrics to suit their cheeky ways. But it was great fun.

Akela sent the Cubs to change out of their uniforms in preparation for games.

Cubs had to run with a rugby ball between their legs, with the first 3 teams winning points. To make it more interesting, the next race involved Cubs moving on all fours and pushing the rugby ball with their heads aka head-butting the rugby ball. This was particularly hilarious as some balls could not stay on its intended course, and rolled out of control.

Cubs then had to run with the rugby balls, a seemingly easy task. But when you have butter fingers, it is no longer a straight forward run! This was followed with a run backwards.

At the end of 4 races, we had a tie between two teams. A tie-breaker would decide the winner, and a simple run was decided to determine the winner.

Before Sunset Party, Akela gave out Progress Badges and Proficiency Badges.

The Singapore Repertoire Theatre will be putting up a play, Jungle Book, based on Rudyard Kipling's book on 21st November 2009. Akela had booked 25 tickets for the play, but response has been overwhelming with more that 60 requests. Akela will book more tickets for the event.

Akela informed the Cubs that there will not be any meeting next week due to the end-of-year exams, and wished all Cubs good luck. He reminded them to adhere to their Scout Promise to do their best in the exams, and their Scout Law to be disciplined and remain courageous under all difficulties.

P6s who would have finished their PSLE will be treated to a Bowling day with Akela next Saturday, a privilege accorded only to P6s every year.

Good Luck to alll Cubs in their exams. Jia You.
