Unit Camp Day 3 19 November 2023

By HPPelican Alumni Wang Ziyi The day kicked off at 6:15 am, as I dragged myself to the toilet to get ready for the day. We had breakfast, before packing up and cleaning our campsite, which was a whirlwind of chaos, memories and teamwork. Then came the highlight of the day, which was the games. For the game that I was in charge of, one team had to hide a few items, while the other had to find them. Despite some cubs having to struggle to contain their excitement and eagerness, the fun was palpable, and the event was a great reminder of their team spirit. As an alumni helping out, I gained a new level of respect for all the event planners having seen and experienced first hand how much effort and planning they had put in to make this camp possible. I have also learnt that the essence of the camp isn't just about having fun or being disciplined. More importantly is the fostering of friendships and teamwork between each and every cub.

Unit Camp Day 2 18 November 2023

By Emu Sixer Favian Poh When we woke up, we reported to the Kidzone. Then we reported to our Indian File. We started our sunrise party. Then we ate breakfast and packed our small bags as we were going for orientation at the Botanic Gardens. When we reported to our Indian File, we were given a map with numbers, a compass and a checkpoint list to see where we were going. After that, we got assigned our leaders to help us a bit and waited till the bus arrived. When the bus arrived, we went on the bus and went to the Botanic Gardens. When we reached Botanic Gardens, we were dropped off at the wrong spot and needed to travel to the correct spot. After we were dropped off at the correct spot, we were given instructions, and we started the Orienteering. We were assigned checkpoints and we headed to the checkpoints using a compass and a map of Botanic Gardens. When it was about 12pm, we took our lunch and sat at the Shaw Fountain Symphony Stage and ate our lunch. After we ate our lunch, it sta

Unit Camp Day 1 17 November 2023

By Senior Sixer Donald Or It was 8:45 am in the morning and I had reached school dragging a heavy and large bag behind me. When I finally put my bag down, Ewan and I got some of the sixers and we setup the flagpole. At 9:00 am, we blew the whistle for horseshoe formation and checked everyone’s uniforms. Ewan then did the colour party. After that, every six pitched their own tents followed by the making of their very own six flags. We got markers and cloth to design our flag. When we were done, we collected some poles and rope to make a flag holder. Unfortunately, Ewan and I both got a splinter inside our fingers when we were holding down the wooden poles. It was lunchtime and everyone was hungry, so we went to the canteen to cook. We had quite a lot of ingredients this time. There was tofu, sausages, carrots, tomatoes, beancurd skin, fishballs, fish cakes, yellow noodles and rice vermicelli. There was even some soup broth. When we were done, we wasted no time and ate everything quickly

The Egg Challenge 4 Nov 2023

By Wombat Sixer Ray Neo At around 8:30, quite a few cub scouts had already arrived. Some cub scouts were busy signing off badges, some were talking, and some were playing. The akela candidates were listening to Bagheera as he was explaining the expectations of the Akela Award. Not long later, it was time to start the colour party. The senior sixers, blew the whistle. Everyone quickly gathered into horseshoe formation and the colour party started. After the colour party, the senior sixers handed the attendance list to the sixers to mark attendance. Next Bagheera gave out quite a few progress and proficiency badges. Next, Hathi briefed us about the safety precautions for outdoor cooking before we started cooking. We are supposed to cook 5 different kind of eggs. A small fire broke out at the place wombat was cooking as they left the mess tin with oil in it on the fire for too long. As a result, the mess tin got burnt and the fire extinguisher was used. Bagheera gathered the sixers to tel

Weekly Meeting 30 Sep 2023

By Koala Sixer Ryan Toh I was greeted by Zhe Yuan when I arrived at the Kidzone for Scouts meeting. I saw lines of fellow cub scouts lining up in front of the leaders to sign off badges. We have to come earlier to sign the badges, however, I could see that I probably wouldn’t get a chance today because the queue was pretty long. I would have to wait for another day. Shortly after, the senior sixers, Donald and Ewan, blew the whistle to inform us to attend to horseshoe. We gathered in a C-shaped formation while we did flag raising. We gathered in Indian file after the flag raising to take attendance. Raksha gave out the Diamond Jubilee Q1 badge to those scouts who had completed the Go Solar Journal. Hathi then briefed us about the Solar Diamond Jubilee Q4 challenge. We are required to do a reflection on the Go Solar journey we took this year. She gave us 25 minutes to finish answering the questions. When we were done with the questions, Ikki, told us that we were going to do a team quiz

Night Hike 23 Sep 2023

By Kookaburra Sixer Liang Junchen On Saturday Night, we had a night hike. We met in school at 5:30pm. We had to gather in front of the library. A lot of people were talking as many were very excited. This is their first night hike. Chil the hike master briefed the leaders first and briefed the whole pack. My six was led by the alumni, Nicholas and Bryan. The bus came around 6pm and the first three six got into the first bus. The 3Ks (Kangaroo, Koala and Kookaburra) got into the next bus. Finally, the last four six got on the last bus. We talked a lot on the bus and time flies. Before we realise, we were at Changi Terminal 2 already. We had a toilet break and we filled up our water bottles. After that, we started on the hike. We walked all the way from T2 to T4, which is the newest terminal. Along the way, we saw signs about the Jurassic Mile and we thought that we were in Jurassic Mile already but it turns out that we were wrong. The Jurassic Mile only started after we passed T4 and a

North Area Solar Oven Competition 16 Sep 2023

By Emu Sixer Niu Yunhan It was a bright day when I arrived at the kidzone. We could not sign badges because the leaders were busy preparing for the solar oven competition. I set the materials I bought next to my six and discussed energetically about the solar oven that we were going to build. We gathered in Indian File and welcomed other cub scouts from the North Area to Henry Park. They are cub scouts from Endeavour Primary, Keming Primary and Woodgrove Primary. Bagheera gave us a briefing and led us to the canteen to start building our solar oven. Each six is split into 2 groups. The 2 senior sixers form 1 group. In total, we have 27 groups participating in the competition. Bagheera had a small surprise in an offer, telling us that we had to answer some questions about scouting in order to get extra materials. Seeing that our group did not have a lot of black paint, my group sent me to get some black paint and a brush. The first question was easy enough, asking what the motto of scou

Art and Crafts Session 19 August 2023

By Echidna Sixer Benjamin It was about 8.50am when everyone got into the Kidzone. The Senior Sixers, Ewan and Donald, blowed the whistle to get everyone in horseshoe. I had to keep on arranging my members uniform as it was not properly done. After the parade, we went into Indian File. Kaa then announced that we were going to make Farewell Gifts for the P6 scouts. We had to write a letter and decorate a frame for them. We went into our Six corner and started the decorations. It was hard to control the Six as everyone was walking around and talking to each other. However, I managed to control them after a few tries. Once we were done, we had to display our artworks in front of our Six. Next Bagheera handed the time to the Senior Sixers to lead the pack. The Senior Sixers decided to call all the sixers out and lead the pack in singing song. We ended off with the Sunset Party and had to go for six council.

After we got into horse shoe, Donald started the color party. It was Emu’s turn to raise the flag. After color party, we lined up in Indian file. Ikki took some time to explain the purpose of 1 minute of silence. In their Six Corner, the cubs shared what they have brought for the pancake making competition. Some cubs brought fruits, others brought chocolates. They discussed how they were going to decorate the pancake. After six corner, we changed into half uniform. After all the six had changed into half uniform, Bagheera told us that the canteen is ready to cook the pancakes. At the canteen, Raksha briefed us about how to make a pancake. First,

'KNOT' AN ORDINARY MEETING! 5 August 2023

By Senior Sixer Ewan Mark Tan I was excited about our upcoming meeting about pioneering activities. Today was going to be a day of discovery and learning. I arrived at school early to set up the flag pole, eager to make the most of it. Donald and I blew a whistle to signal the start of our activities, forming a horseshoe formation. With this first step completed, we moved on to a colour party, aligning ourselves in Indian file. *GETTING IN FORMATION* Repetition was essential as we practised switching between the horseshoe and Indian file formations. Our initial attempts were a little slow as we tried to improve, but we persevered. After working on our formations, we settled down and took attendance. It was time to divide into six corners, allowing the sixers to interact with their group members and offering scarf-tying advice to those who needed it. *A PIONEERING ADVENTURE* As we resumed our Indian file arrangement, we were given instructions and reminders about the day's activitie

Badge Test 29 July 2023

Written By: Senior Sixer Donald Or It was around 8.50 a.m in the morning when everyone came flocking into the Kidzone. The newly appointed senior sixers blew the whistle at 9.00 a.m to get everyone into horseshoe formation. The unit still had to move faster as some of the sixes were just playing with each other at the back and not paying attention. Ikki had to spend a long time checking on the cub’s uniforms and positioning. He also had to get the unit to settle down. After the whole unit was ready, the senior sixers asked Bilby’s sixer to do the Colour Party. The senior sixers and sixer saluted to the flag and recited the scout promise and law. They then did one minute of silence. Afterwards, the whole unit went into Indian file formation and Ikki taught all the sixers how to settle the six down properly and how to take attendance. After all the sixers had taken attendance, the leaders told them about the activities for the day. There were going to be 4 different stations, conducted b
