'KNOT' AN ORDINARY MEETING! 5 August 2023

By Senior Sixer Ewan Mark Tan

I was excited about our upcoming meeting about pioneering activities. Today was going to be a day of discovery and learning. I arrived at school early to set up the flag pole, eager to make the most of it. Donald and I blew a whistle to signal the start of our activities, forming a horseshoe formation. With this first step completed, we moved on to a colour party, aligning ourselves in Indian file.
*GETTING IN FORMATION*
Repetition was essential as we practised switching between the horseshoe and Indian file formations. Our initial attempts were a little slow as we tried to improve, but we persevered. After working on our formations, we settled down and took attendance. It was time to divide into six corners, allowing the sixers to interact with their group members and offering scarf-tying advice to those who needed it.
*A PIONEERING ADVENTURE*
As we resumed our Indian file arrangement, we were given instructions and reminders about the day's activities. The emphasis was on pioneering, which is a skill that involves the construction of structures. Dragonheart led the first task, making a shoe rack using shear lashing and square lashing techniques. During the shoe rack construction, I moved around to assist anyone who required assistance. Upon completion, we returned to the Indian file formation, presenting our shoe racks at the front for review by Dragonheart.
Following that, our attention turned to the flagpole project led by Bagheera. Similar to the shoe rack project, I offered my assistance where needed. We gathered in Indian file again, our flagpoles prominently displayed, awaiting Bagheera's assessment.
*EVERY MEETING JUST GETS 'BATTER'!*
Kaa distributed badges, and the leaders outlined the plan for the next meeting: pancake making. Next week sure sounds delicious.
As the clock neared noon, Donald and I signalled the transition to the horseshoe formation for the sunset party. Following the ceremony, the Sixers convened for a council meeting. As the meeting ended, I felt a slight mix of exhaustion and contentment. I valued the opportunity to lead once more.
