Unit Camp Day 1 17 November 2023
By Senior Sixer Donald Or
It was 8:45 am in the morning and I had reached school dragging a heavy and large bag behind me. When I finally put my bag down, Ewan and I got some of the sixers and we setup the flagpole. At 9:00 am, we blew the whistle for horseshoe formation and checked everyone’s uniforms. Ewan then did the colour party. After that, every six pitched their own tents followed by the making of their very own six flags. We got markers and cloth to design our flag.
When we were done, we collected some poles and rope to make a flag holder. Unfortunately, Ewan and I both got a splinter inside our fingers when we were holding down the wooden poles.
It was lunchtime and everyone was hungry, so we went to the canteen to cook. We had quite a lot of ingredients this time. There was tofu, sausages, carrots, tomatoes, beancurd skin, fishballs, fish cakes, yellow noodles and rice vermicelli. There was even some soup broth.
When we were done, we wasted no time and ate everything quickly. There was more than enough for everyone. After we had more energy now, Bagheera briefed us on how the egg drop competition was going to be like. Basically, we had to build a structure out of newspaper and tape, and attach the egg to it. The sixes whose eggs did not break would win. However, when most of us were done, it started to pour heavily. With only one choice left, we moved onto the newspaper tower making. Most of our eggs broke apart when we tried to put them onto the tower as it was too flimsy. We had lots of fun and soon after we got some biscuits for tea break.
We played a group game and gathered into horseshoe formation after. I did the sunset party before we had our revision on how to use the map and compass for the next day where we would go to botanic gardens. We went to the canteen for dinner after and there was chicken, corn and rice. At about 6:45pm, we went to the hall to get ready and welcome all the parents for the P6 send off. There were some videos about the P6s and after that, it was the alumni investiture.
Ewan and I brought out the alumni flag and they recited the scout pledge. They each got their very own alumni scarf. Soon, it was the end of the event. There were some refreshments for our parents before they left. Since the day was very tiring, the leaders decided to let us skip sixers council and turn in early!
