MacRitchie Hike - 21st April 2012 This was to be our first hike of the year - a 5 km hike in the MacRitchie Nature Reserve, starting from Venus Drive all the way to the MacRirchie Reservoir Park, with a picnic to round it off, and a slide down the grassy slope. Al;as this was not to be. When we assembled in school at 7 am, it rained cats and dogs. As with rains in Singapore, we all thought the rain would stop in time for us to start the hike. In great hopes, therefore we boarded the buses at 7.45 am, but instead of going to the starting point, Akela decided to go to the end point. This was because it was clearly not possible to start at the original start point, without knowing when the rain would stop. However, there was still hope that we could all do some hiking at an alternative trail nearby. Again we were disappointed as the rains didn't let up. Akela then decided to let the cubs eat their picnic food in the sheltered activity area. Although not exactly hungry, the cubs ...

Scout Meeting - 14th April 2012 This was a meeting which all the cubs did was to play games!!! The game which the cubs enjoyed the most was the Crab fight - a pair of cubs got down on all fours, but with body facing upwards and backside pointing down. The aim is to knock the other cub down while crawling, crab-style. At first they were only a few volunteers, and the rest saw that it was quite fun, the whole parade square was filled with human fighting crabs! After the crab fight, by popular demand, Amoeba was played - naturally, most of the cubs simply ran all over the place, screaming and yelling, and having a great time! After everyone had enough, Akela reiterated the aim of the game, and how it should be played. There is no doubt that the next time the game is played, the same chaos would happen again.

By Leader Scribe/ Sixer Jeremy Tan (see below for pictures of our representatives at the District Sixers Training Camp) It rained cats and dogs 1 hour before we were to meet at 6pm in School. I wondered if we were going to have an indoor campfire as the rain beat down incessantly. I thought it was more fun to have an outdoor campfire. I have not attended an indoor campfire. Lady Luck smiled on us. At around 6 pm, the pouring rain became a drizzle and the weather changed for the better as we prepared to depart for West View Primary School for the Bukit Timah District Campfire. Before we left, Akela carried out some administration like collecting S$4 from each Cub and the Earth Hour pledge forms. We had earlier promised to do our part in conservation on Earth Hour day on 31 Mar 2012. Not surprising, some of us forgot either the S$4 or the forms while others forgot both. We left the School at around 6:30 pm in three buses which brought us to the campfire site. Whe...

Today marked the first step for the new cubs to start on their journey to earn the Bronze Arrow Badge. Akela taught the cubs how to identify and read trail signs - an important skill to learn for use if they ever get lost in the forest or jungle. Meanwhile the Sixers went about laying several trails so that the cubs can practise their newly learnt skills. Although we couldn't verify it, apparently one of the trails led to the boys' and girls' toilets!
