GANGSHOW 2011 17th September 2011 By Scribe Brandon Khaw Yeah! We are all going to the Scout Headquarters in Bishan to participate in the 1st ever GangShow 2011.  Most of us have arrived much earlier than the required meeting time of 1pm. One of my friend was there at 12 noon! We were very excited because for most of us, it would be our first visit to the Scout Headquarters.     After the initial briefing by Akela, we finally boarded the bus! All the sixers and assistant sixers moved to the rear of the bus.  It appears that the rear seats were reserved for the sixers and assistant sixers. After a final headcount, the bus moved out of the bus bay and finally we were on our way.  Water droplets started appearing on the window pane as it had started to rain. Whenever I am on an outing with my school mates, the journey always seemed so short! Not enough time for more discussions with my fellow cubs as we got ready to disembark as we have reached our...

Cyclist Badge Test 10th September 2011 By Akela Eleven cubs turned up with their bicycles to be tested for the Cyclist Badge during the Saturday of the September school holidays. Akela firstly tested each one of them on the theory - maintenance of the bicycle and road safety. In addtition the cubs had to demonstrate how to check for air pressure, how to pump air into the tyre, and how to mend a puncture. After passing this stage, the cubs were ready to show Akela their skills in riding a bicylce. Initially cubs had to show how they mount and dismount their bicycles, and the safety precautions to take while on the road. Finally, in batches, the cubs were asked to ride around the bus-bay, with a challenging ascent into the ramp leading to the exit gate, followed by a descent to the starting point. All passed with flying colours, although one or two had to take the test twice. The happy cubs who received their Cyclist Badge are: Caleb Liow Bryan Liow Brandon Khaw Jarred Chua Max...

Police Dog Unit Visit 5th September 2011 By Scribe/Senior Sixer Kimberly Song The long awaited day has finally arrived! We were all filled with excitement!!  Today, we are going to visit the Police Dog Unit. Once we arrived, we were ushered to a room to watch some dog trainers perform tricks with their dogs. The trainers showed us the various types of police dogs; some could sniff out drugs, some could sniff out bombs, others that could attack armed criminals and more. After that informative performance, we were then brought to connecting rooms with many cages inside. A strong stench of dog poop and pee hit us when we entered the room. Most of us held our breaths while those who have pets at home were used to the smell. We were introduced to many dogs as well as the new dogs that the Police unit had bought. After a few suffocating minutes that felt like hours, our host guided us to an open area where some officers were dolling up the dogs. We were given some time to fee...
