North Area Founder’s Day on 22 February 2025

By Bilby Sixer Dmitri Tay It was a very exciting morning. The scout leaders had instructed us to come to school by 7:30 a.m. for the North Area Founder’s Day activities. When I arrived at school, most of the scouts were already there. At 7:40 a.m., we hopped on the bus and set off. When we arrived at the venue, I noticed it was a different location from last year’s event. I still remember last year when we gathered at the stadium to welcome our new Chief Scout. This time, instead of a sports stadium, the event was held between a few HDB blocks. The event began with us reciting the Scout Promise and the Scout Law. After a few words from the guest of honor, the carnival games started. To earn the prize, we had to complete five minigames, and another five to earn the badge. My six had a lot of fun playing games organized by other scout units. There was a variety of activities, such as sorting materials into the correct groups and answering questions about Scouts. There was even a photo bo...

Investiture on 15 February 2025

By Bilby Sixer Andre Goh I arrived at Scouts with a smile, excited to sign off on my cyclist and first aid badges. After completing that, I patiently waited for the Senior Sixer to blow the whistle for horseshoe. Once horseshoe was done, we lined up in Indian file to listen to our Scout leader, who shared the plan for the day. First, we submitted our Diamond Jubilee Challenge (DJC) card and money to the Scout Leaders. Then, the leaders handed out the long-awaited proficiency badges, along with our DJC Badge. I was thrilled to add six more badges to my jersey! Next, we were introduced to new members who joined our six, and I was excited to learn more about them. For the meeting that day, the leaders instructed the Sixers to pack a hike bag. The hike bag included items like a poncho, mosquito repellent, a groundsheet, a clipboard, and stationery. Most importantly, we were reminded to bring our water bottles to stay hydrated during the hike. Each Sixer explained the purpose of each item, ...

Sixer Refresher Course (8 Feb to 9 Feb 2025)

By Deputy Senior Sixer Ang Yi Chen On the 8th of February, we arrived at school for the Tenderfoot Camp and Sixer Refresher Course. As a Primary Six pupil, I was attending the Sixer Refresher Course Camp. The camp emphasized teamwork, leadership and practical skills, ensuring all participants are well-prepared for their roles in the Pelican Scout Unit. The first task upon arrival was to place our bags in the 1A classroom, which served as our designated storage area for the duration of the camp. Following this, we were given a short briefing on the first aid test. We sat for the written pre-test and none of us passed it. Then, we had a short recap about the essential first aid skills, including how to handle minor injuries, perform CPR and respond to emergency situations before our practical test. During the practical test, we performed arm sling, head bandage, CPR, AED usage, and lots more. Upon passing the practical test, we then sat for the real written test, and all passed it with a...

Tenderfoot Camp (8 Feb to 9 Feb 2025)

By Bees Sixer Isaac Li (Echidna Assistant Sixer) It was a sunny morning when I reported to the Kidzone. I saw recruits in their school uniform sitting at their bags, and other Assistant Sixers like me talking. The leaders asked the senior scouts to gather in Indian file at a corner of the Kidzone first, then explained that the P6s would be having their Sixers Refresher Course, and would not be the Sixers for the camp. We were meant to take over their role and be the Sixers instead. We had just finished our briefing, and the recruits were already lining up in their camp sixes. After they were all assigned a six, the Assistant Sixers were assigned to each of the sixes. I was the Sixer of Bees, and Ding Wen and Lucas were helping me as Assistant Sixers. There were 5 sixes in total: Ants, Bees, Chicks, Ducks and Eagles, which eventually became Elephant. I soon got to know the names of my six members well. They were Mika, Navaneet, Anson, Lee Jaek, Anji and Samuel. We then were passed some ...
