Investiture on 15 February 2025
By Bilby Sixer Andre Goh
I arrived at Scouts with a smile, excited to sign off on my cyclist and first aid badges. After completing that, I patiently waited for the Senior Sixer to blow the whistle for horseshoe. Once horseshoe was done, we lined up in Indian file to listen to our Scout leader, who shared the plan for the day.
First, we submitted our Diamond Jubilee Challenge (DJC) card and money to the Scout Leaders. Then, the leaders handed out the long-awaited proficiency badges, along with our DJC Badge. I was thrilled to add six more badges to my jersey!
Next, we were introduced to new members who joined our six, and I was excited to learn more about them. For the meeting that day, the leaders instructed the Sixers to pack a hike bag. The hike bag included items like a poncho, mosquito repellent, a groundsheet, a clipboard, and stationery. Most importantly, we were reminded to bring our water bottles to stay hydrated during the hike. Each Sixer explained the purpose of each item, and showed their six the bag to use for the hike.
Finally, we had our investiture ceremony, a special occasion for welcoming the new Scouts into our group. It was a meaningful event where the new members took their Scout Promise, pledging to uphold the values and principles of Scouting. The ceremony was held with great respect, as each new Scout stood in front of the group, eager and excited to officially join the movement.
During the investiture, each new Scout received their Scout scarf, a symbol of their new role and commitment. It was a moment of pride for both the new Scouts and the rest of us. I felt a strong sense of camaraderie as we shared this important milestone, knowing that the new Scouts would soon experience the same joys, challenges, and lessons that had shaped my own time in Scouting.
I hope the new Scouts will enjoy their journey, make lasting friendships, and acquire valuable skills that will stay with them for life. It’s always exciting to see fresh faces join our ranks, bringing energy and enthusiasm, ready to embark on their own adventure in Scouting.
