Dragon Boating & Telematch, 10Nov2018

Jointly Written by: Kwan Kai Fong, Assistant Senior Sixer & Scribe And Cheong Yew Chung, Sixer & Scribe I came to school early and when I realised the P6’s were coming I was sad since this would be the last time we see them until the P6 send off. We were placed in our groups and I was happy with mine. We went to a sport dome and walked to the place where we would start the dragon boating and end it. I was a bit angry with my dad because he was being a bit annoying. We learned how to hold our paddle and put on our life vests aka. PFT aka. Personal flotation device. Once we got on to the boat I was scared because it was rocking I felt like the boat would capsize but once we went off I felt at ease. “Row! Go 1, go 2, 3 ……” how did we get to this?   Ok we are going to enter the boat I am Cheong yew Chung and I was in boat 1. We were all in the bus on the way to the dragon boating centre but even in the bus, everyone was hyped because we all played our favourite gam

Cooking Session, 3Nov2018

Written by: Chong Min Rei, Senior Sixer and Scribe It was a normal meeting. As we were told to bring our mass tin and utensils, I expected to do outdoor cooking. We started off by having colour party and then letting the sixes have their Six corner. After six corner, we all lined up waiting for Baloo’s instructions. We followed Baloo’s instructions and moved to KidZone 2 where Baloo talked to us about cooking using a gas stove, I was surprised as I thought we were doing outdoor cooking like normal. Baloo talked to us about the ingredients of a fire. Soon enough, all of us were at the canteen waiting for the leaders to help us and tell us what we needed to do. I was with the girl seniors as I knew them really well and I could join any team I wanted to join. Joanne and Trisha told me that we were going to make French toast, now my stomach was grumbling waiting for the food to fill it up. The team was going to make French toast but with a twist, as Trisha had a lot experien

NEA Badge 13Oct2018

Written by Thirrushan, Asst Sixer & Scribe It was the 13th of October 2018 and I woke up earlier than usual, as  it was a Saturday! Saturday’s only meant one thing- scouts! When I reached the kid zone, there were very little members. Soon,  it was time for the colour party and we went into horseshoe position.  Many of the Primary Fives were not here, as they went for the Akela  award ceremony. I already have my gold arrow, so I am sure I will be  like them next year! This meeting, we were going to try to get the NEA cleanliness badge!  We went to the Teaching Lab for the briefing by Mr Tan. For the next  few hours, we went discussed cleanliness, Dengue, and energy  efficiency. First, we talked about the badge. It was a badge witch the brownies  can do too. Respect, Harmony, Responsibility, Care, Resilience and  Integrity are the 6 core values of this badge( but mentioned by Mr  Tan, the 6 core values of the CCE guidelines). Secondly, we talked about cleanliness.

Night Hike 29Sep2018

Written By Cheong Yew Chung, Sixer & Scribe “Ok when we call your name please sit down.” the senior sixers said. It was today it was the night hike! Not all looked forward for this but I did as it could allow me to bond with my six more. Soon, we entered the bus, and arrived at the Bukit Timah Hill! At the start of the hike, we were all tired as it was super duper steep! But at the top every one thought they were done but we continued down and everyone questioned: where’s the bus? The leaders told us we were hiking home! Just like that there was a loud and long whine. But we did it anyway. Within the next 1-2 hours we made it to our picnic stop. For 45mins we relaxed and all had fun. But the night had come and we were all forced to on our torches. On the remaining path we all talked and laughed at jokes. And before we all knew it, we were in school and were dismissed. I hope everyone enjoyed the hike!

The Art of Active Listening 22September2018

Written by Bryan Low, Sixer & Scribe Today, we came to school at the normal 9.00 and put our bags own before beginning  our horseshoe and colour party. After that, we sat down in indian file and waited for further instructions.  Baloo came to the front, and told us that we were going to learn how to perform active  listening. He taught us a little on what to do, and then told us and acronym for it; EAR  E - Eye contact; have eye contact with the speaker A - Ask; when we do not understand something the speaker is saying, we should ask  him to confirm. R - Reflect; make sure that you know what he is saying and repeat it in your head so  that you will not easily forget too. After learning, it was time to see if we had listened to Baloo’s lesson! He asked for  volunteers to come in pairs and act out active listening.  A pair did not do very well, while another pair was very funny, so we laughed a lot. After that, we prepared to move to the music room. Why? We

Tent Pitching 15September2018

Written by Ross Pary, Asst Sixer & Scribe  Today was an interesting day. We were going to do Tent  pitching! So exciting. It was a great skill to learn. The meeting  started as Mr Cheong let us do the six corner, an activity  brought back from the past. It was basically a short period of  ten minutes. It includes setting goals for our six members for:  proficiency badges and progress badges. After the six-corner ended, Min Rei told us to go the grass patch outside and collect  our tent bags. We got a bit too excited and started taking the tents out of the  bag. Actually, we were supposed to put our tent bags on a  grass spot. Then, we were supposed to sit down on the concrete floor and wait for instructions. Soon after we settled  down, Mr Cheong asked all the sixers to do a demonstration for  the new scouts as they may not have pitched a tent before. The  recruits listened to the sixers closely and put up their tents in no time. Well done! Soon, it was our turn

Punggol Waterfront Hike 25August 2018

Written by Chong Min Rei, Senior Sixer & Scribe It was an early morning the sun hasn’t even risen when I woke up that day was going to be a long day. While waiting, Cubs killed time by playing and talking to one another. not long, everybody had arrived and Mr Cheong had begun his short briefing before the hike. We then took attendance and went off.  The bus ride was long and relaxing so we could get extra sleep before the long hike ahead of us. When we got of the bus we went to look at the sea between Singapore and Malaysia, we saw the loading area in Malaysia there were multiple boats filled with cargo. We continued the hike by walking along the beautiful sea and stopped in front of the gate leading into the waterfront to take a picture. When we went through the gates we immediately saw a monkey curiously looking at us. I felt a bit afraid that the monkey would jump at us and scratch us. Fortunately, it did not attack us. The trail was surrounded by trees which gave

Ulu Pandan Emergency Preparedness Day 18Aug2018

Written by Ross Pary, Asst Sixer and Scribe Today we were attending the Ulu Pandan Emergency Preparedness Day activities! So fascinating! This would be the first time I would be going to such a big event about safety. After our attendance was checked, we got on the bus to the Ulu Pandan Marketplace. It was flooded with people. When we reached our waiting area, the sun started to get to us. But the scout leaders said the programme was going to begin. And they were right. The programme started off with a simulated terrorist attack. The idea was to show people how to behave in the event of a terrorist attack. The bullets that were fired were blanks. Interesting! After the simulated terrorist attack, in our six, we were supposed to go to the different booths to get our stamps and answer some questions. If we completed the activities, we would get a goodie bag! My six went to the Press, Tie and Tell booth first. We watched a video on how to treat injuries first. Then, we were

Akela Award Assessment & Interview, 4Aug2018

Written by Bryan Low, Sixer & Scribe Today, I arrived at school at 7.35 a.m. as, along with other Akela Award Candidates, I would be going to Punggol View Primary School for our Akela Award interview. We were very excited as we had passed the logbook test and yellow book requirements, so the only thing standing between us and the Akela Award was this interview that we would be going for in about one hour’s time. When all of the Akela Candidates were present, we then took a bus to Punggol View Primary School which took us about 40 minutes. Once we had reached Punggol View Primary School, we went up to the hall and were given our group numbers. We then went to our groups and sat down, waiting for the programme to start while talking to other fellow scouts in our groups. Everything passed in a blur and soon, my group and I were in a music room, waiting to start our interview. We had been told that we would be split into two big groups. One group would

Solar Oven Competition, 4Aug2018

Written by Thirrushan, Asst Sixer & Scribe Today was going to be the very first time I was going to cook something in a solar oven as i didn’t come for last years NORTH AREA SOLAR OVEN COMPETITION!! Firstly,I came extra early to try to finish my book readers badge as I needed it for my Akela Award, since I had already completed my gold arrow! Just as i was going to complete the last segment, Kai Fong blew the whistle, signalling all cubs to assemble in a horseshoe. I was not upset that I did not finish my proficiency badge as i still had half a year more to complete it! After the colour party, we assembled in our indian file. The cubs from another school joined us in the fun of the competition! We warmly welcomed our guests. After that Baloo explained to all of us how to set up the oven and its uses. A while later,Baloo ordered the sixers to bring their sixs to different corners of the Kidzone to make the oven. Our sixer went for the Akela award, so I was the acting sixe

Selif-Reliance Activities, 21Jul18

Written by Kwan Kai Fong, Asst Senior Sixer & Scribe I came to school early to help the six that was folding the flag, I was scared the flag was upside down until Mr Tan came. We got into groups 1-4. There were 4 stations, ironing some T-shirts, sewing wooden buttons to cloths, tying our shoe laces as a little competition, folding clothing we spent 5 minutes siting on the ground. Then we went back into our groups then we had a real competition everything but ironing into one competition everything was easy. Although we were tired we did our best we still had cuts from sewing. Raksha told us all 2 weeks later we will have a Solar Oven Competition we all became enthusiastic. We all went home exited for the Solar Oven Competition.

Handover Ceremony, 14July2018

Written by Chong Min Rei, Senior Sixer & Scribe I had to come early to hand up my documents and log book for the Akela Award. While I was singing things off, the cubs came in one by one to the KidZone. Some went to play, some went to talk to their friends, some went to queue up to sign things off their yellow book and help with the flag. “Beep! Beep! Beep!” went the whistle. Everybody got into a Horseshoe, we then had colour party and got into Indian file. Baloo then explained how we should get our badges or our certificates and got our badges. After that, Baloo chose some sixers to lead songs and gave them comments and asked us how they did. We then had a game, we had a ball and a six will stand in the middle and we tried to roll the ball so when it hits the person’s leg they had to go out. It was really fun! Not to long later, we got our appointments. When they were going to say the Assistant Senior Sixer and Senior Sixer, everybody was very excited. When they said

Outdoor Cooking, 7July2018

Written by Trisha Chan, Senior Sixer & Scribe This week, we were going to do outdoor cooking with actual wood! We were very excited and couldn’t wait to start. However, we had to wait as Raksha and Mdm Kerina had to give out the Job week woggles and progress badges. After that, we trooped to the canteen and changed to half U. Each six then received a small chicken and three chocolate bananas. We were then directed to 10 tin trays to build our fire in. After that, we searched for kindling (twigs & leaves) and lit our fires with matches. Soon after, we doused our fires, ate the food, did Sunset party, and happily ran home.

Sixers Training Camp 2018, 30June - 2July2018

Written jointly by Bryan Low, Asst Sixer & Scribe and Cheong Yew Chung, Asst Sixer & Scribe Day 1 “Okay is everyone here?” said Baloo. We had all just gathered for our sixers training camp 2018. We then boarded the bus and started our long journey to terror sea scout’s camp site. After the log journey we all settled down for a while and we started pitching our tents. It was a blast and did some foot drills followed by lunch. So far, we felt it was nice, but we spoke too soon. After Baloo spoke to us about being a leader, we went for a 10KM hike!!!                       It was really tiring that we almost felt like we were all dead people. But we made it out and fitter than ever. We then had dinner and Mr Cheong went through we us what It means to be a leader. And we soon finished washing up, sixer’s council and our reflection. Day 2 It all started with us doing morning PT, colour party and us having breakfast. After that we prepared our song for the campfir

Written by Bryan Low, Asst Sixer & Scribe Today, we arrived in school at 9.00 a.m. But, we were each here for our own separate reasons. Some came with bicycles, some came with rollerblades while others just came with their school uniforms and bags. Yes, today was the test for people who wanted to earn the cyclist or skater badge. We split into three groups, one for the cyclist test, one for the skater test, and one for the Akela candidates. The cyclist badge candidates went to the Lower Indoor Sports Hall (ISH) while the skater badge candidates and Akela candidates remained in Kidzone 1. The cyclist and skater badge candidates then did their test and the names of those who passed were written down, ready to be given the badge on their next meeting. The Akela candidates spent some time being briefed on their task and what to do during the June holidays. After that, they too were able to take their cyclist/skater test if they wanted too. After all the tests wer

Preparation For Amazing Trail 2018, 28April2018

Written by Syred Hafiz, Asst Senior Sixer & Scribe “beeb, beeb beeb, beeb beeb!” I blew the whistle to signal horseshoe. I was proud as when I was in the middle, I could see a lot of new scout members. There were a lot more than before and all of them were standing proudly. After horseshoe, baloo came and asked some people to stand up and sing what they have prepared to the previous week. Since I did not come, I did not know what baloo was talking about.   So he brought us to the music room. There, we were learning a dance called waka waka. It was a very fun dance and the music is very nice. Then, baloo called the singers up. They ended up singing a song by one direction. The song is called what makes you beautiful. These performances are actually for the gala dinner after the amazing trail. We rehearsed many times until we were perfect. We were confident of doing well for the dance as we were quite good at it. We walked back to the kidzone for dismissal. I blew the w

Treasure Hunt @Bontanic Garden, 21April2018

Written by Trisha Chan, Senior Sixer & Scribe Today we were going to Singapore Botanical Garden for a treasure hunt! After taking attendance, we boarded the bus and headed to our morning of fun. When we arrived at the Botanical gardens, we went to our starting point, the grass area in front of the Symphony stage. We were then given a few pages of questions to answer and two hours to complete them. We then set out to complete as many questions as possible. We ran around searching for information like: What were the 14 rules and regulations of the gardens, or how many lights were there on the Symphony stage. After two hours were over, we went back to the grass area in front of the symphony stage and had our picnic. Soon we made our way back to school and went back home.

Cathalic High Campfire, 14th April 2018

Written by Cheong Yew Chung, Asst Sixer & Scribe I t was just 5.49p.m. we had just arrived after a meeting and a few hours.                                                                                                                             The campfire was going to be amazing as it was my first time attending a catholic high campfire. I was so excited I could not stop moving. It felt like the night wind was blowing in all directions and learnt many new songs like 朋友. It felt like we were all brothers listening and dancing to the very catchy music. The floor was full of laughter, chants and songs. Surprisingly the songs are still stuck in my head. I felt the songs are filled with values like how friends should stay united and close having each other’s backs even if it’s a loss.       So in conclusion, the camp fire was mesmerizing. I did not want to go home but I had to. Through this I hope you will learn that you can learn values in different forms, b
