Today,
I arrived at school at 7.35 a.m. as, along with other Akela Award Candidates, I
would be going to Punggol View Primary School for our Akela Award interview.
We
were very excited as we had passed the logbook test and yellow book
requirements, so the only thing standing between us and the Akela Award was
this interview that we would be going for in about one hour’s time.
When
all of the Akela Candidates were present, we then took a bus to Punggol View
Primary School which took us about 40 minutes.
Once
we had reached Punggol View Primary School, we went up to the hall and were
given our group numbers. We then went to our groups and sat down, waiting for
the programme to start while talking to other fellow scouts in our groups.
Everything
passed in a blur and soon, my group and I were in a music room, waiting to
start our interview. We had been told that we would be split into two big
groups. One group would go for their interview first while the other group
would play some games. After a while, we would switch over.
At
the interview, the interviewers would ask a question (e.g. share about how you
achieved one of your proficiency badges and what did you learn) then, we would
have to stand up one by one and answer the question.
After
the interview, we had a short break before then switching over to the games.
At
the games section, we played some team building exercises like human knot, etc.
After
finishing the games, we went back to our sitting arrangement and waited
impatiently for the results of the interview. “You all passed!” We heard. We
were so happy that we shouted…
A
scout from each school then went to the front to collect the Akela badges for
their school. We were so overjoyed when we received the Akela Award!
We
then took the bus back to school, remembering the fun and nervousness during
the interview, happy that we had all gotten the Akela Award. I couldn’t wait to
go home and sew it on my scout uniform!
