Visit to Police & Fire Station, 27th August 2016

Written by: Joanne Koong, Assistant Sixer & Scribe The foyer was filled with chatter. Today we were going to the Queenstown police and the fire station. Some of the P5 and P6 went for the Akela award interview. “ Okay. Now, we are going to check if everyone has brought their consent forms,” Raksha announced. Everyone instinctively stood up and our names were called out. Soon, we found ourselves at the station. My group went to the police station followed by the fire station. We were then briefed about what a policeman has to wear. The five main equipment are 10 bullets, a rifle, a taser, a T-baton and a pair of handcuffs. We went to the armoury and learnt that only one person is allowed in the armoury at one time. We were then briefed about what would happen if we bullied other people or stole. If we bullied someone, there is a chance that we may go to jail! Last but not least, they explained the insides of a police car.  Not long after we went to the fire station. At th

Written by: Trisha Chan, Sixer & Scribe “Horseshoe!”   The senior sixers hollered. After we assembled in Horseshoe formation, we did color party and observed one minute of silence. Then we found ourselves sitting on the floor in Indian file, looking up at Raksha. Last week, Raksha told us to bring our mess tins for next week’s activity, which was outdoor cooking! Now she asked us to move our bags to Kidzone 2, and take out our mess tins. At Kidzone 2, each six was assigned a spot to cook, and we also found out that we were going to cook a burger! Next, the sixers went forward to collect solid fuel and portable stoves. Every scout got three pieces of solid fuel and a portable stove to cook with. First, we put a piece of solid fuel on the portable stove. Then, we lit a match, and we put it on the solid fuel to burn it. When that was done, we put our  mess tins on the cooker, and cracked an egg in our mess tins. Some scouts preferred scrambled eggs to sun

Written by: Jasper Koh, Sixer & Scribe “Beep! Beep! Beep! Horse Shoe!” the senior sixers shouted. We started off our meeting as usual but today the activity was not taking place at the usual Kidzone. Instead, it was conducted at the PAL room. Why? Today was a special scout meeting, we were going to learn about aviation. It was for us to get a Young Aviator Badge, this activity was conducted by the Scout HQ (Headquarters). It aims at enhancing the awareness in Aviation-related domains, and introducing us to the History of Flight. We learnt about the Principals of Flight through things like building our own paper airplanes. After folding the paper airplanes, we decorated it. We folded and decorated 3 paper planes in total. Soon, the exciting part came. It was competition time! It was to see whose paper plane could fly the furthest. After that, we had lunch at school as we were going out. Soon after lunch, we left the school for our outing to the Changi Airport
