Young Aviator Badge, 6th August 2016
Written by: Jasper Koh, Sixer & Scribe
“Beep! Beep! Beep! Horse Shoe!” the senior sixers shouted.
We started off our meeting as usual but today the activity was not taking place
at the usual Kidzone. Instead, it was conducted at the PAL room. Why? Today was
a special scout meeting, we were going to learn about aviation. It was for us
to get a Young Aviator Badge, this activity was conducted by the Scout HQ
(Headquarters).
It aims at enhancing the awareness in Aviation-related
domains, and introducing us to the History of Flight. We learnt about the
Principals of Flight through things like building our own paper airplanes.
After folding the paper airplanes, we decorated it. We folded and decorated 3
paper planes in total. Soon, the exciting part came. It was competition time!
It was to see whose paper plane could fly the furthest.
After that, we had lunch at school as we were going out.
Soon after lunch, we left the school for our outing to the Changi Airport! When
we reached Changi Airport, we had a worksheet to complete at the Departure Hall
at Terminal 3. We had to stay within the departure hall only. The questions’
answers were mostly drawing instead of writing. After we finished doing the
worksheet, we discussed the answers we wrote and added things that were not in
our answers.
After we had finished discussing the answers, we went back
to school. There was a short debrief and after that we went home. I hope there
will be more of these kinds of activities as I find it fun. I look forward for
the next scout meeting!
