Scout Meeting 30th January 2010

Acting Senior Sixer, Julian Tan called the meeting to order. Having forgotten his whistle, it was a challenge to call for the Horse Shoe. Nonetheless, Cubs fell in to start off the meeting.

The Flag Break did not go very smoothly as the flag had been tied too tightly. Cubs would need practice!

After reaffirming the Scout Promise and observing a moment's silence, Cubs fell in Indian file for the usual house-keeeping items such as attendance-taking and submission of the Scout Log Books.

Echidna, Emu and Kangaroo did not submit their Scout Logs as the Cubs possessing the logs were absent. Cubs were reminded to place greater importance to the Scout Log and make appropriate arrangements to have them available for all Scout meetings.

Akela briefed the recruits on the day's activity, while Baloo led the Cubs in reflecting the morning's Colour Party, the Scout Promise and the minute's silence. Cubs contributed their thoughts, ranging from praying for the victims of Haiti's eartquake, the P6s and their year-end PSLE, and how a Cub may live by the Scout Promise. Baloo especially liked the latter.

Recruits were also occupied with uniform measurements, which would not have been possible without the invaluable help by Mrs. Cynthia Awyong an Mrs June Phang. A BIG thank you to our ever-so-helpful parents. Also on hand to assist was another teacher-in-charge, Mdm Kerina, who has just joined us this year.

For this morning's activity, Cubs had to form the words of the Scout Promise and Law using newpaper cuttings and pasting them on a vanguard sheet. Each Six would be judged on their creativity and points awarded.

The girls would be the front runner in this activity.

Not to be outdone, the boys got straight into the job at hand.

Perhaps a short read of old news might reveal some secrets.

Teamwork is crucial in an activity such as this. One Cub seems to be indifferent.

While everyone else in this Six were busy cutting and pasting, one Cub did not participate.

This activity requires teamwork, creativity and cooperation. As it turned out, most Six could not complete all three tasks given. The teams that had everyone working on the tasks obviously managed to complete at least one task.
