Written by: Gautham, Sixer 2015-2016 & Guest Scribe  The Akela award ceremony was held at Yangzheng on the 22 nd of November 2016. It was a special occasion for recipients of the Akela award for their achievement. I was one of the fortunate few from HPPS to receive this prestigious award. Indeed it was a memorable event for me.  Prior to the commencement of the event, all the recipients were ushered to the hall. We were briefed on how to carry ourselves when we go on stage to receive the award. After the briefing, the organisers held a rehearsal for the recipients on how to go on stage and pose for photographs. It was indeed a new experience for us and I was very excited about it.  Soon after the rehearsal, the recipients returned to their respective seats. Then, all the guests gathered in the hall. When all the guests had settled down, the emcees addressed them and announced that the guest of honour would be arriving soon.  Shortly after, the guest of honour arrive

Written by: Jasper Koh, Sixer & Scribe “Beep! Beep! Beep!” the Senior Sixer blew the whistle signalling the start of the meeting. We started of the day with some badges that the adult leaders had to give out. After Mr Tan came in and gave us an introduction on what we were going to do – The use of Compass.  We were then told to find our pacing, we had to walk 100 meters and find out how many steps we took. After that, we went up to the PAL room where he taught us more about compass. First, we started of with a recap on the map symbols. He drew the symbols on the whiteboard and we had to name the symbols on the piece of paper. After that, he also tested us on the points of the compass and we had to find out the grid number of a dot on the map he drew. Soon, he explained to us on how to use a compass and handed us one. The compass he handed out to us was said to be the most common compass, the sliver compass. We tried using the sliver compass and we had to find the sou
