Written by: Joanne Koong, Asstant Sixer & Scribe “I am so excited! I cannot wait for the bumboat ride!” All the scouts were bubbling with excitement about the trip to Pulau Ubin. For the first time in history (I think), our scouts were extremely attentive and we only had to do the headcount once! Well done! After much anticipation, we finally reached the jetty at Changi Village where we could board the bumboats. We were making such a ruckus that Kaa glared at us and all of us immediately kept quiet. As most of the boys wanted to go to the toilet, the girls boarded the first bumboat to Pulau Ubin! The ride to the Pulau Ubin was very scenic and we were even fortunate enough to see a bumboat pulling a barge containing heaps, no…. mountains of sand! It was a Saturday morning as we started our scout meeting as usual. The scouts scrambled to get into Horseshoe to start Kalapati. After the usual ceremony, we assembled into Indian file. That day was a special meeting that most of us would never forget: The Hand-Over Ceremony. I came to school very early for the scout meeting as there was a briefing for all the Akela Award Candidates. The seven of us waited patiently for Mr. Cheong to address us. When he arrived and sat down on a seat, we immediately sat in front of him in a semi-circle. When he gave us the instructions to bring our documents and log, we scattered, ran to our bags, grabbed them and came back to the semi-circle. He instructed us to line up for him to check that we have filled the forms in properly. Suddenly, while checking through someone’s form, the senior sixer blew the whistle, so we had to pack all our things and from horseshoe. After the horseshoe, we lined up in Indian file. As we were told to sit down, Mr. Cheong called for all the Akela Award Candidates. W

Day 1 – 2 July 2016, Saturday The selected cub scouts gathered in school. One by one they arrived, carrying their heavy duffel bags, backpacks, and luggage.
