Henry Park Pelican (Cub) Scout

Even though we had been there many times, changes to the route have been made and there were definitely more things to discover. My sisters and I arrived in school at 7am, 15mins early. It’s always good to be early. It felt different as we would usually go at 9am. The sky was darker and it was relatively colder. We conversed till 7:15am and soon the whistle blew. We quickly assembled in Indian File and waited for further instructions. Chil took our attendance and briefed us on the hike. Soon, we boarded 3 buses and headed off to MacRitchie. Today more than 80 cubs from Henry Park Pelican Scout commemorated World Scout Day during our school assembly. Cubs arrived in school early in their neat and tidy scout uniform. All 11 Sixers joined Senior Sixer, Lucas Tan on stage as he read the World Scout Day 2014 message  from Chief Commissioner, Mr Tan Cheng Kiong. After which, all cubs reaffirmed their scout promise. Written by: Andrew Yeo, Assistant Senior Sixer & Scribe Today was an exciting morning for the recruits. We started off the day by giving them a warm welcome. Mrs Koh then proceeded to give out proficiency badges to the cubs who had earned them earlier . As I was clapping for the cubs, I was sure that this was a satisfying moment for them who had gotten their badges.  I was also sure that the cubs who had not gotten their proficiency badges were encouraged to take part in them. After that, Mrs Koh started assigning the recruits to their new and permanent six. I was surprised that the only six which the recruits were not assigned to was my former six, Bilby, which still had more people than the rest of the sixes.        The sixers were then asked to break into their own groups because the recruits were supposed to memorize the names of the people in the group. After that ,all of them were asked to bring their money along into a special room were they were to buy their uniforms

Written by: Caleb Liow, Sixer & Scribe I was sure that it was going to be a fun-filled day. I was at the annual recruits camp as a service scout. The new energetic recruits had brought with them enormous camping bags, filled to the brim with camp equipment. There were sleeping bags, mess tins, toiletries, clothes and a wide array of other items. The recruits were divded into four groups, otherwise known as sixs, to encourage teamwork in the activities. The sixs were: Ants, Bees, Crabs and Ducks. Two assistant sixers from our main unit were appointed to each six as a duty sixer / duty assistant sixer. Akela briefed the recruits on important scout information, like the Founder of Scouting, when was Founder’s Day, who brought Scouting to Singapore, the Jungle Book ... .The recruits were also taught the Scout Promise, the Scout Law, the Scout Hymn, the Scout Motto...
