Scout Meeting, 13th July 2013
Written by: Lucas Tan, Assistant Sixer & Scribe
Yeah! The long awaited scout meeting of Term
3 has finally arrived!
Raksha had
instructed us to bring four items,
1. Scissors
2. White Glue
3. Colour Pencils
4. Markers
I had a feeling we
would be doing something really fun today, and I was right! After the usual
horseshoe, Mdm Kerina showed us a pack of ice cream sticks. She told us that we
were going to make something very interesting out of these ice cream sticks –
we were going to construct what we thought futuristic scouting would be like.
For example, we could build futuristic tents or uniforms.
Each Six was limited
to one pack of ice cream stick each. We had to use this limited resource to
construct our vision of scouting in the future. As soon as we were split into
our Sixers’ Corner, we immediately started working on our arts and craft
project. We had to take time to visualize the design before constructing the
actual model.
Most Sixes had the
same idea in mind - to build futuristic campfires and tents. Some even made a
new futuristic scout uniform. My Six
decided to make a solar-powered campfire. The solar energy would be used to start
a fire.
Time’s up. We had
to showcase our models and explain why we had built this particular item and
what purpose it served. One Six came up with a tent that looked small on the outside but was
huge on the inside. They even claimed that there would be a swimming pool,
personal toilets, a shopping centre, comfortable rooms to sleep in and even a
play area in the tent itself. How
I wish that could be true….
In the end,
Platypus Six got the highest amount of points for giving a good explanation and
making a very interesting item.
They received 90 points.
Today’s meeting was
indeed a good one to start of a whole new term of scouting.
