Henry Park Pelican (Cub) Scout

1st report by Scribe Brandon Khaw (see 2nd report below) Hooray! It’s the first scout meeting after the 1-week March holidays. I was looking forward to meeting my friends that I got up earlier than usual. After a quick breakfast, I was off to school. The meeting started promptly at 9am. All of us gathered and formed the horse shoe and we got ready for the colour party. Then it was time to submit our Job Week earnings so we gathered at the canteen and waited in line for our turn for submission. Whilst waiting, we were talking about our job week experiences. After the adult leader has verified all the earnings, we were told to write down our Job Week experiences. For me, I found this year rather challenging. My partner, Jun Le and I had a rather tough time. Most of the residents decline and told us that they do not have any job for us. It was rather discouraging but we look at the bright side, we were thankful for the many kind people whom we met who couldn’t stop feeding us wit

10th March 2012 Job Week has finally arrived! Akela, as in the past years, kicked off Job Week by holding a final briefing on the Do's and Don'ts for Job Week. Then came a roleplay by the Sixers - a positive one, and a negative one. The negaitive one drew lots of laughter as the cubs learned about how not to do Job Week. After the briefing, all cubs set off to start their first job - how much will they make this year? As in the past, some cubs signed up to work at 2 Caltex petrol stations - they worked in 3 hour shifts over 5 days. Judging from their smiles, it must have been fun, to be among so many goodies, and be in aircon comfort as well!

By Scribe and Senior Sixer Kimberly Song Today held the most memorial event item for a recruit. They would be promoted to Cub Scout and receive their very own scarves. The day began with a very cramped kidzone and chaos. Akela was furious because bags were strewn all over the place and not placed together with their six. Attire was not complete for some and a couple of cubs were late. After horseshoe, we formed straight lines of Indian fine and began discussing the one topic that I have been waiting for. Job week. Akela told us the same things as every other year, how to introduce yourself when someone answers the door, what not to do and what to do. A few recruits were picked as volunteers to demonstrate how to counter back a very difficult to deal person that answers the door. By Scribe/Sixer Jeremy Tan I woke up with eagerness go to school early as we were going to St. Patrick’s school for the Adiji Chief Scout Ceremony of the new chief scout, our President of Singapore, President Tony Tan. We had to be in school by 7.15am. The new recruits wore their uniform for the first time but without their scarf as they have not had their investiture yet. They looked incomplete without their scarf but nevertheless look good and smart and blended in with the Cubs. We assembled outside the general office and 3 charted buses took us to St. Patrick’s School. Each Six had an adult leader who took care of the Six as many Scouts from all parts of Singapore were expected at the Adiji ceremony at St Patrick’s School. When we arrived at St Patrick School, there were almost 6,500 scouts already assembled there. We were awed by the size of the St Patrick School as our school was very small compared to theirs.
