Scout Meeting, 28th January 2012

The Rose By Scribe/Sixer Jeremy Tan The theme for the Scout Meeting on 28 January 2012 was the Rose. We were taught to make paper roses from “Ang Pow” red packets and serviettes. To me, the Rose is symbolic of Love- Love for our Country, Love for our Parents and Love for the People we care. R espect, O bey and S erve the E lders Teaching us ROSE was very important. It was the 6th day of the Lunar New Year and we had “bai nian” our elders (greet to pay respect) with 2 Mandarin Oranges and wishing them the traditional New Year greetings such as “Long Ma Jing Shen” “Wan Shi Ru Yi” “Gong Xi Fa Cai”. Our Elders in return blessed us with the Chinese New Year traditions and give us “Ang Pows”. A bouquet of Roses for the CNY traditions and values. 14 February 2012 is Valentine’s Day. First Scout Meeting, 14th January 2012

By Scribe Brandon Khaw Hooray! It’s the first scout meeting of the year! We gathered at the kid zone in the new Henry Park campus. “Beep…beep beep…beep beep” there goes the signal for all of us to gather for horse-shoe. Hey, that’s weird where is the flag pole? At this moment we could not find the flag pole for the scout flag, so we would have to do without it for now. After the usual procedures, we gathered in Indian file and Akela gave us a ‘briefing’ on the scout log…… and he stressed the importance of submitting the scout log every week. Soon we were in our sixer’s corner to update our particulars. Then comes the fun part! We were brought to the field to play a game. We were supposed to use one of our hands to hold into to one of our foot and ‘attack’ the opponent. The first person that falls or surrenders becomes the other person’s prisoner, the team with the most people wins! “Beep” blew the whistle. Everyone starts to charge at each other.
