Saturday 22nd January 2011 The morning started brightly with Akela rousing the new recruits, a good sized haul of 26 boys and 3 girls with his usual cheerfulness, under the watchful eyes of anxious parents. Recruits assembling at the KidZone at the start of the camp Not knowing what to expect Fun games and introductories to the respective sixers did the ice breaking and the kids warmed up happily to what is turning out to be a meaningful induction into the Brotherhood of Scouts. Chil put the boys and girls through some foot drill. As a uniformed group, it was important to instill discipline through foot drills. First Scout Meeting 2011 15th January 2011 By Scribe Marcus Choo Holidays are over and we’re finally back to Scouts meetings! Today was the first meeting with the recruits joining us! Looking at them, it reminded me of my very own first scout meeting as a recruit – very excited yet nervous as I did not know what to expect! I’m sure some of the recruits felt the same way as I did 3 years ago. After flag break, Akela took the recruits and we did foot drills. We were split into three groups and were led by the two Senior Sixers and Louis. I was glad I managed to remember the many different commands after the long school holidays break! However, many others forgot and we weren’t exactly in sync with one another! More practice needed! Games time! This is the part of the weekly scout meeting that all cubs look forward to! Three games were played today: Frog and Fly, Dog and Bone and Captain’s Ball. My group started off with Frog and Fly, a game where the human has to guess who the

First Scout Meeting for Recruits 22nd January 2011 Twenty eight recruits joined us for the first meeting of the year. At first they appeared to be a quiet bunch, looking around apprehensively, not knowing what to expect. After a series of games conducted by Akela, they began to lose their shyness, and became noisy, and at times, over enthusiastic. Interspersed with the games were brief introductions to scouting - the scout sign, scout salute, and the left hand shake. The finale to the meeting was the Captain's ball - played with a baollon filled with a little water, with no running - only hopping and jumping. When a balloon burst because of rough handling, the players got splashed with water from the balloon! All to soon it was time to rejoin the main unit for the closing flag ceremony. Sixers' Meeting & Recruitment Briefing Saturday 8th January 2011 By Scribe Kimberley Song Finally! After a long holiday, itâs time for scouts again! Say goodbye to your beauty sleep everyone! It was a peaceful Saturday morning, I could have been sleeping, eating or watching television, instead, I woke up early to attend the scout meeting. I was really excited since it had been a long time since there were any scouts activities. When I reached school, I placed my bag down at the usual spot then I played with my friends untill Akela came. We formed the usual horseshoe and began the colour party. Things were going perfectly fine until we noticed that the scout flag was upside down! We all knew we were in hot soup as we had forgotten everything about the flag raising ceremony. But being the forgiving Akela we know, he let us off the hook. Instead he decided to teach us how to arrange and hook the flag for the flag raising ceremony again. Being my first time, it took me
